Amano shrimp killing and eating my minnows... help

I once watched my amanos snack on my newly hatched CRS. Had to get em outta there ASAP.

    Whisker Shrimp Compatibility

Be wary, fellow fishkeeper. I introduced one puny 2cm whisker shrimp in a 5 gallon planted cube with three dozen red cherry shrimp and one Izumo Nankin goldfish. Within a month I gazed upon naught but dismembered cherry whiskers, tails and legs, and my goldfish was considerably worse for the...

This snails - yey or ney?

if you have any fish or shrimp in there you could grab a pair of tweezers and crush ones you see every now and then to feed them. the snail poo nourishes the plants and they also help the algae to a minimum.

how to deal with preganent Crayfishes?

Add a tonne of java moss and dense vegetation to give the babies a place to hide.

    Pond snails! :(

Are there any live inhabitants in your tank? Whenever I see pond snails I just grab a pair of tweezers and crush them and my shrimp and fish go nuts for em.

    Electric blue crayfish

I think your blue cray has autism. lol jk not really a laughing matter. Perhaps it's uncomfortable due to water parameters? trim your params to as close as you can to perfect and hope it starts eating. if you've been feeding it dead mysis shrimp and bloodworms perhaps try live ones? I had a...

    Incongestion?

I've seen quite a few shrimps slowly turn white and die over the course of a few days. I hope your little blue friend survives but be prepared for it to die.

    Old Indian Almond Leaves

give em a quick rinse and throw them in, or if you're worried about stuff leaching throw it in a bowl of hot water (heated from the cold tap, don't use hot tap water because there might be copper and other undesirable stuff in your hot water pipes) for a couple minutes then transfer it to the tank.

    Dwarf Crayfish and Betta

dwarf crays are fine. they only really grow to about an inch and a half so it won't kill your betta unless your betta is ill or stupid as hell.

    2.5g Shrimp

As long your tank is established and stable you should be fine. I have a few 1 gal planted tanks that I keep around 4 to 5 shrimp in. One 0.94gal cube I have on my office desk once held upwards of 30 orange sakuras before I decided they were too cramped and threw them in a 5gal. Their bioload...

How big can ghost shrimp get? And why are they so aggressive?

They might be macrobrachiums. If that's the case then they will literally snatch any living thing they can and devour it. Every tank I ever tried to house them in, they conducted genocide. Bettas, otos, snails, shrimp, crabs, etc. They are crazy evil and shouldn't really be kept with other...

Controlling algae in a fluval spec

throw some liquid carbon in there and add more plants. throw an oto and a couple snails in there (i personally recommend two different breeds, one specimen each)

    Getting Snails

Get some pond snails man. They are tough as [nails - moderator edit] and will survive whatever you throw at em.

    Shrimp information

Ghost shrimp suck. They don't eat algae and eat other tank inhabitants. Some tiger shrimp or red cherries will do fine. Just buy a handful and throw them in there (obviously acclimate them). Change 20% water every week or two and don't overfeed them. In fact you can go three days between...

    Will amanos eat baby shrimp?

Yeah that's along the lines of what I was thinking. Little baby shrimp blindly wandering into an amano's grasp and the amano is like yeahh free snacks! I've quarantined the amano in my 1 gal blue dwarf cray/macrobrachium tank so he won't be nibbling on baby shrimp any time soon. in fact he's in...

    Will amanos eat baby shrimp?

As the title implies, has anyone ever witnessed amano shrimp eating baby shrimp? My fire red population was steadily increasing, with fry all over the place, and baby shrimp growing nice and fast. But ever since I got my amano, which is roughly an inch and a half, the fry have completely...

    Planaria in snail tank

No problem :) it's creepy how after reading this thread I saw my first flatworm in my tanks . I'm used to the little white thread like ones but never the flat ones. Looks like I might have to follow my own advice hahaha

Help me decide which shrimp colony to start!

I've only had crystal reds for about a month and I bought around 2 dozen golden tigers for about 4 USD. (fortunately shrimp and fish and other aquatic stuff is super cheap here in Hong Kong, I'm hoping to breed them by sticking the more vibrant ones in a breeding box. I've heard they aren't too...

Reminds of The Lord of The Rings when they enter that evil forest. Spookily awesome!

    bamboo shrimp

One or two shouldn't be a problem as long as you have a hiding place for them and suspended particles with a decent water current.

Help me decide which shrimp colony to start!

How about some golden tigers and crystal reds? Tibees would be pretty awesome. I'd personally love some black neos, sulawesis and freshwater harlequins.

    Planaria in snail tank

You can buy these nifty little glass traps with little holes in them for the planaria to wriggle through. just stuff a little chunk of meat in there and they'll swarm all over it. just hope you don't get any shrimplets stuck in there.

    Sulfur Smell

if the plant is still green, leave it in there. give it a wash and stick it back in. dwarf lettuce, frogbit, raccoon tail and Egeria densa are all plants that absorb ammonia like crazy. literally throw them in there and watch them grow like mad.
