10 gallon probably overstocked but. . .

I thought so too What else could it have been though? I did take this male away from the only adult female black molly; could he have died of a broken heart? lol

Yeah I was thinking nitrates too. Thanks! What sort of filters do the pros use? Canisters?

    10 gallon probably overstocked but. . .

I wanted to run this by y'all anyway. Rocco, my beautiful black sailfin molly (male), was moved to my 10 gallon tank on the 24th of December 2015 along with a male guppy. There were also about 25 guppy fry and 5 black molly fry in this tank, which had already been cycled with some real plants...

Have you ever had something like that happen to you?

    The Disappearing--and Reappearing--Guppy

On Halloween of this year I did a radical 75% water change to try and lower the 2.0 ppm ammonia level in my tank. I had three female guppies, one male guppy, two guppy fry, and two black mollies in the tank at the time. The next morning I looked and couldn't find Goldeen, one of the f guppies...

Finally Got My 10 Gallon Cycled

They've been together about a month now and he's definitely got a gonopodium. I tested my source water for pH (about a 7.8), but nothing else. Guess I should do that.

Finally Got My 10 Gallon Cycled

Did a water change. Will test in about an hour to see where I'm at. I've got two "real" plants; will those help control the ammonia, or with the chemistry in any other helpful ways? I thought it was a female, but she's so bossy with other females. She tried pushing Rocco, my male black molly...

Finally Got My 10 Gallon Cycled

Oh and P.S. is that a female black molly? It was sold to me (of course) as a male.

Finally Got My 10 Gallon Cycled

I think. . . Tested the water yesterday: .25 ppm ammonia 7.8 ph 5.0 ppm nitrites 5.0 ppm nitrates temperature 78 F (heater keeps it pretty constant) That filter has been on there since October 15th, but the gravel and ornaments have been in there since September 7th 2015. My biggest question...

Fish In Cycling New 20 gallon

I just split the males and females up I put 1 f black molly and 2 f fancy guppies in the 10 gallon tank that I'm cycling, and left the 2 m black mollies and 1 m fancy guppy plus the 2 guppy fry in the 20 gal tank in order to reduce the bioload while I'm cycling. Thanks again for the help!

Fish In Cycling New 20 gallon

So really it's just overstocked in a sense? Would you recommend 50% water changes?

Fish In Cycling New 20 gallon

Set up 15 October 2015 with 2 guppies and 1 black molly. Added 2 guppy fry about the 20th, then another black molly and 2 more guppies on the 21st. Ammonia has persisted at above normal levels since 25 October (2.0 or 1.0 ppm). Been doing 25% water changes daily, and even did a 75% water change...

Thank you! She's very pretty I think. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    ID this black molly

This is a female molly, right? I was sold "two females" but since I've learned a little more I think I've decided only one of them was f.

    So excited to be here!

Also sold 2 "female" mollies and I'm pretty sure only 1 of them actually is a female. This looks like a female molly, right? [/IMG]

    So excited to be here!

Missing Guppy So I'm missing my female named Goldeen this morning. She seemed totally fine last night! What in the heck could have happened to her? Took all decorations out, looked under all rocks, and even checked the filters and immediate proximity around the tank for a possible jumper. Wow...

    So excited to be here!

Here's a n00bie question I'd really like to patronize businesses who breed and sell fish "the right way" (whatever that is) instead of patronizing petsmart or other big box corporate chains. Is there a website or place I could go to find local breeders? We don't have any independent pet stores...

    Black Molly, Ammonia Toxicity

big water change I think it was probably both, although I'm leaning towards the water change as more helpful of course. I did a 75% water change today in the hopes of getting that 20 g tank under control. The other hardy fish in there got a little freaked by the large water change, but seem...

Hey y'all! I used to have fish when I was a kid (goldfish and the 10 gallon aquarium with mollies, guppies, and tetras), and have just gotten back into the hobby since my 10 year old is interested in "sciency stuff" as he calls it. We currently are cycling a 20 gallon tank with fish in (2...

    Black Molly, Ammonia Toxicity

I figured the fresh water would do it good, but I had no idea that aeration was anything more than decorative. I went out and bought a large bubble stone for my 20 gallon tank as soon as I could because it improved my molly so much. Any ideas on how long it would take for the effects of the...

    Black Molly, Ammonia Toxicity

I have a relatively new Molly that is acting very lethargic. The tank it was in did register 2.0 ppm this morning, but the other two mollies and six guppies in it seemed fine. The tank has not cycled yet, and I'm working on getting my ammonia levels down in this 20 gallon tank. I decided to...

My 10 gallon tank still hasn't cycled

OH! In the filter! Well that explains a lot! lol I changed my initial filter in my 10 gallon after buying the 20 gallon tank. That's probably why it's taking so much longer for it to cycle. :D

My 10 gallon tank still hasn't cycled

so fishless just let it complete on its own But keep those levels low in the tank with fish. Got it. :thanks: The molly seems to be suffering from ammonia toxicity, and has rebounded somewhat after four hours in the goldfish bowl. May get one of those desktop tanks to serve as a sick bay if...

My 10 gallon tank still hasn't cycled

Yeah I figured So just keep at it with 25% water changes daily until it fully cycles? Both with fish and without? I also have a sick black molly. I put it in a goldfish bowl of conditioned water for now. Is that bad?
