New fish owner w possible pregnant molly.....help please

If she is pregnant, you could isolate her in a breeders box. These are specially designed to allow the fry a chance to escape other fish, including the parents. Once the babies are born, you can move them to a grow out tank until they are big enough to fend for themselves. Mollies are live...

    Cant stop it...

This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but let the cyanobacteria come in and cover the hair algae. This will take a little while and your tank will look absolutely terrible. Eventually the cyanobacteria will cover the hair algae and kill it by starving it of the light. It may take a few weeks...

Question on how to heat a tank that is half sand half water?

It sounds like a reptile heating pad under the fish tank would do the trick for you, but I'm wondering if you would even have to do that. If the sand is partially submerged in the water wouldn't a heater in the water keep everything warm? Is there something I'm missing, maybe I'm...

Growing Plants Emersed in Preparation for Planting Large Tank

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned your plants leaves died off when you started, do the leaves die off again when you transfer them back to full water eventually?

    Stores in ann arbor/detroit area?

A website I built might help you: FishStoresNearMe.com. It's a website I built that should have all the fish and aquarium stores across the country, but if you see any missing let me know. :)

    Planning a Tank

I think a good way to approach it, is like Laeris said, first figure out if there is something you definitely want in the tank. This may drive the rest of the build. But assuming you want a general setup and are flexible, I usually put all the hard scape in first. I personally like making...

    Cold water plants

I have a cold water fish tank and I'm looking for some advice on plants. Right now I have some java moss, java ferns, anacharis, anubias and red ludwigia. I have med to high lighting and the water temperature is between 58 and 62 depending on the time of year. Are there any other plants you...

    hatching bronze corydoras eggs

Did you do anything to trigger the spawing, or did they do it on their own. I have six peppered Cory cats that look like they are about to spawn but I never see any eggs.

    Dwarf Puffer?

Nils gave some great information to go by. I've kept dwarf puffers in the past, as well as some other puffer species. Puffers are some of the most interesting fish in my opinion. They seem more intelligent than other fish. I have had luck with feeding dwarf puffers frozen bloodworms, the have...

    Bristle Worm Problem.

Bristle worms are generally beneficial to your tank, however if you have way too many it is due to over feeding. You could manually remove them with the bottle trap or by getting something that eats them, but make sure to cut back on your feeding because if there is nothing left to eat the extra...

    Little lobster

Do you have a picture of it? Is it a lobster or a dwarf crayfish? When most invertebrates molt, their exoskeleton looks like a translucent version of themselves, it's pretty neat. It may get picked up by the filter or eaten by other things in the tank, but if you see it, you might as well scoop...

Bookshelf tank (newb here pls halp)

In my opinion the metal attaching the bookshelf to the wall isn't providing a ton a support, it's probably more there so it doesn't tip over or maybe just for stability. With that said, the rest of the bookshelf doesn't look like it could support a ton of weight, so I would probably lean more...

My firefish eats frozen brine and mysis. Maybe give that a try.

    New 65 gallon! Setup questions

I don't know the answer to all your questions but I'll tell you what I do know. 1. I don't have any experience with that specific filter but I have a canister filter on my 55 and love it. 2. Not sure on lighting, it might depend on the type of plants you want. 3. Depending on the type of...

    Platies

I'd be more worried about the platies picking on the bettas fins. Bettas usually only attack other bettas or possibly other fish that look like it.

    nerites climbing out of tank

I had a Nerite climb out of the tank and end up halfway across the floor. I put him back in and put a lid on the tank, but there was a small gap where the filter was. It crawled out again, only this time my wife found it. She didn't realize it came from my tank and threw it outside :/ I had a...

    ammonia poisoning?

I agree with keegster803, the gold fish are very messy fish and probably producing more ammonia than the bacteria can handle. If you have the option of giving them to a friend with a pond I'd recommend that. Then do a water change and let the tank stabilize and you should be good to put in other...

    Beginner marine tank questions.

I did not mistype my statement, dry rock does not become live rock without seeding it. There is not way to get the biodiversity on dry rock without seeding it with quality live rock. There is a lot more to live rock then coraline algae. If you want to use rock as a natural filtration, coraline...

    Beginner marine tank questions.

You can use dry rock; however it won't become live rock over time. You can seed the dry rock with a small amount of live rock. This will be your best shot of having the dry rock look like live rock over time. As far as lighting, if it's a FOWLR white only would be fine.

    New Fish Tank

I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but fish tanks need longer than 48 hours to cycle. The full cycle process usually takes a month or more when starting with a brand new fish tank. Until it fully cycles you shouldn't add any fish in the tank. You may get lucky and the guppies in the...

    Hi Everyone, I'm New

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forums, although I've been keeping fish for over 10 years. I started way back with a 10 gallon tank, and have kept everything from fresh water, brackish water, salt water, and reefs. I'm excited to see what I can learn and hopefully help answer some questions along...
