The meet went very well, had a turn out of around 10 people. We traded/sold some frags and then went to another members house to check out his display tank and prop. setup. Nothing scheduled for the future yet, but a couple people have expressed interest in hosting at their houses.

Well I've hosted a couple small get togethers so far, and things have gone pretty well. A lot of people expressed interest, a lot fewer actually attended (which is to be expected I suppose :D ), but overall attendance has been increasing. Its been extremely informal so far with turn outs of...

To skim or not to skim!

Skim! I think macroalgae filters/refugiums can be a valuable addition to a tank, but quite often they are too small to truly eliminate the need for a skimmer on most systems. IMO/IME the advantages of skimming far outweigh the drawbacks.

    Hwo much more

I think in this case he was suggesting a 125 since it is the smallest standard size 6' tank still readily available. Since surgeonfish tend to be pretty active swimmers, a 6' tank is generally accepted as the minimum aquarium size needed as they grow larger.

    Black tang

I have to disagree with you steve. I'm not sure where you got this information, but my personal experience along with everything I've ever read on the species tends to point towards them being every bit as hardy as all the other fish in the Zebrasoma genus. The two I have had personal...

I got rid of my DSB, and I haven't been happier with my tank :D

    Question about MH bulbs

New bulbs will also require about 100-150 hours of burn in time before they reach their true color. They should whiten up a little over the next couple of weeks.

    ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer

 I agree 100%. My friend and I are designing a skimmer, thats why we have been testing models that run the gamut from Becketts and downdrafts to a Lees airstone skimmer. Right now we are planning something similar to a Euroreef in construction, but completely sealed so it can be seated...

    ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer

In the original post he asked about the viaaqua with built in UV which retails for about $120 online. I paid $150 for my AquaC so thats where I got my numbers. I guess its about a $40 difference if you shop at Marine Depot, sorry :D Regardless the ViaAqua was designed to fit the same niche...

Best food and supplements for brain and other corals

The feeding tentacles will appear around the outside margin separating the mouth from the rest of the polyp. They are usually only extended at night, but the feeding reponse can usually be triggered by gently squirting some juices from fresh seafood around the coral and waiting 10-15 minutes...

    ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer

Exactly my point. The ViaAqua performs quite poorly next to it, so I would spend the extra $30 and get a Remora if I were shopping for a HOT skimmer for a smaller tank. I really like the Tunze comlines as well, but not everyone wants an in-tank skimmer. :D

    MH retrofit questions

With adequate ventilation, a chiller shouldn't be necessary with 250w halides (assuming the room temperature isn't too warm). Don't forget to acclimate any photosynthetic invertebrates to the new light slowly; it's quite a jump in intensity from 2x65w PCs :D I think you will be very happy with...

    ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer

IMO they are a little gimmicky, kind of like an updated Skilter :D . For the money you would be better off with an AquaC Remora. We ran it on a tub with some freshly cured live rock and it pulled some skimmate out after a few hours. We then tried placing a Tunze comline and an AquaC in with...

Ugh, do you see what I see?

I haven't had any luck eliminating them yet, but I have gotten them under control (hopefully :D ). I dipped what frags and colonies I could in seachem reefdip (approx. 4 times the normal dose) for 10-15 minutes and increased overall water motion in the tank. Their numbers have dwindled, and...

    Starting up a Frag trade

I'm always interested in trading frags. What are your store hours? I'm guessing from your screenname that you only carry saltwater? Hows your current selection of Acropora? :D
