Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

Thanks! I've got someone else on another forum telling me to use the Tetra Safestart...but like you just said, I've read elsewhere that it's debatable on whether or not it works. I'll give it until this weekend (since I'll have more time) and if no changes by then, do a 50% water change. As...

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

I don't have a problem with waiting the 30-40 days. But everything I've read says I should be seeing nitrites by now. That's my major concern at the moment, along with having to add more water (and thus possibly slowing the cycle down).

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

Going to keep testing every day this week but definitely discouraging that nothing at all seems to be happening. At what point do I drain the tank and start over?

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

I can take pictures if having something with the present condition helps.

    Couldn't upload it but here's a link.

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

To answer #1, no. The plant was purchased at Petsmart. It's now brown with one leaf left. I'll try to upload a picture I took when I first set the tank up. Only difference then to now is the plant.

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

No nitrites today. Ammonia color MIGHT have been a little lighter but it could be my imagination/wishful thinking. Continued evaporation to where I think I may have to top the water level off. Getting close to the submerge line on the heater.

Sounds great. I'll start testing for those tomorrow.

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

Got it. I haven't added any ammonia since the first day - have been waiting for it to fall to 1-2 before doing that. Only testing for nitrites every 3-4 days, testing for ammonia daily though

Day 14. Still no change in ammonia. Starting to wonder if I've done something wrong.

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

No change in ammonia as of yet. Day 9. I do have about an inch or so of water evaporation...and the sole live plant that's in there is dead. Water is a little cloudy, but from what I've read that will go away on its own?

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

In terms of fish? We're looking at some zebra dainos, mollies and possibly tetras.

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

So I tested again today. My ammonia was between 4-8, so it's starting to come down. My nitrite however is still 0. Is that cause for concern?

Aquarium Cycling - Too Much Ammonia?

Hey everyone! New to this but I've tried to do a bunch of research. Have the liquid testing kit and all that. I'm on Day 3 of a fishless cycle. Water temp is 87°. I added pure ammonia to jumpstart the bio filter (nobody I know has a tank for me to use). My ammonia reading is 8ppm with no...
