I've put in a brussel sprout before tied to a stone and they and tell that. you can and also put lettuce leaf in. there are loads of green vegetables you can add (don't add loads though as it can affect water balance). just check online... I found a list, I just can't remeber them all right now...

I don't see many.... my local fish store only has one out of the hundreds of 'normal' thermometers. they are expensive too. (£15 vs £2) but I had a voucher lol

I've definatly have had my share of mistakes. I've only been fish keeping since November so no doubt I'll make more! but you sharing our mistakes does help others (or at the very least it taught me something I had not considered before, and how cold water can be an immediate danger).

I forgot to keep an eye on the bucket I siphon water into once... you can imagine the outcome!!!! now I siphon out of the window haha

I'm sorry to hear about your fish :( it's an honest mistake im sure nearly everyone has made.... I know I have done this but luckily my betta is very hardy. as cliché as it sounds; learn from it. it's sucks but it isn't something you will do again.

when researching why my water isn't clear I came across this.... intrigued (because I have slime too .. just not white/clear) I read up on it everywhere I read said it was harmless and would likely right itself. (although like any algae you can manually remove of it takes to long)
