    Is CO2 worth it?

Thanks for the info. So far I'm considering trying out the DIY system first. My one concern is having it run at night. Would having an air pump run at night oxygenate the water enough or did you just shut it off every night? I know some use a solenoid valve but that seems to defeat the purpose...

    Is CO2 worth it?

I've seen a lot of support for the use of CO2 in freshwater but have been wondering if it really makes that much of a difference. I'm sure that it encourages plant growth and provides optimal conditions to get big and healthy plants. Is the same kind of growth achievable with out CO2 along with...

How to increase water hardness ?

My tap water is at a low hardness, Ph and Kh. For the ph and kh I have been adding baking soda during water changes and this has worked well for a couple months now. I would like to increase the hardness for the guppies and snails. This tank is also planted with red swords, dwarf Sagittaria...

    Disappearing frogs

Keep checking around the house. I've had two that made it half way down the stairs till someone noticed. Could they be stuck in any decorations or the filter? Are they small enough to be sucked up during a water change?

    Tank a death trap?

It seems like you are doing everything you described right. Did your tank or anything in it possibly come in contact with chemicals? Or even the equipment you use for water changes? Also do you have any plants in it?

    Microworms

Today was the first day of feeding microworms. I was concerned because they ended up sitting in a hot mailbox for a couple of hours but after three days of sitting in a container of instant mashed potatoes and yeast they multiplied enough to be crawling on the sides of the container. Thanks for...

    Microworms

Thanks for the reply! I ordered a starter from eBay so I should be able to start a culture this week.

    Microworms

I'm considering starting a colony of microworms to go along with my guppy fry's normal diet. From what I know they are pretty easy to keep a supply and provide a good source of live food. Has anyone had a bad experience with them or have any tips? Where do you suggest I buy them from?

Hydrogen peroxide dosage? / Algae treatment

Three days ago it was just slightly cloudy water then yesterday it was worse now the tank is fully green water. I did a 35% water change yesterday assuming that would help but it just fueled the fire and gave the algae a better opportunity to grow. Im not running the lights at all but the tank...

Hydrogen peroxide dosage? / Algae treatment

I've recently have had an algae bloom in my 20 gallon freshwater planted aquarium most likely due to overfeeding. I've cut down on feeding and have adjusted the photo period of my tank. I was wondering if someone has experienced using hydrogen peroxide to treat a whole tank? What dosage would...

    First time planted aquarium

A nice looking and easy plant in my opinion is red flame swords. I ordered mine from aquariumplants.club for a decent price and low shipping. Just be sure that what you decide to buy will work with you're water. Also it's important to provide proper nutrients. I prefer aquarium co-op's easy...

    Plants flowering?

Mine did flower at some point without my interference. I believe they cross pollinated due to the filter constantly moving the water in that area and maybe catching some pollen with it. You could try using a paint brush or q tip and see if they will self pollinate. Just be patient with it, mine...

    Plants flowering?

I'm just as clueless are you are. I just picked up a pack of bulbs and had two of these plants sprout. The first one had some pretty rapid growth while I was waiting for my tank to cycle. Here's some pictures of the leaves of my two plants that have been growing just under a month. They've been...

    Help injured gourami!

It's a dwarf gourami around 3 inches. The filter isn't incredibly strong or anything, I've had smaller fish handle it without problem. He seems to be improving a bit and swimming around so maybe he will be okay. Thanks for the tips.

    Help injured gourami!

As I was going to feed the tank this morning I noticed my gourami was not coming up to the surface as he usually does. I found him stuck to the filter intake (HOB) and I assume he's been this way at least a couple of hours. He looks pretty bad at this point but is still alive and resting on a...

    Plants flowering?

Do you know what type of plant this is? I've grown something similar from a bulb but haven't had any luck identifying it. Mine flowered pretty quickly, it took about a week from the stage shown above. At the moment I'm using a very cheap white and blue LED bar. (Not sure about the specs)
