Just had a thought, is there any way to tell what color this snail is going to be or do I have to wait for it to get bigger and just see? It’s brownish, clearish right now with some darker stripes on the other side. Does that mean it will be brown as an adult?

I keep my bettas with sand with no adverse effects. They sometimes like carving 'hiding-hollows' between sand and driftwood, but they've never tried to eat it. Hope this helps.

Hmmm... Thanks for bringing that up, Steven. I hadn't thought about the fact that lack of depth means more light. And Like you said, I'd probably just end up with a GIANT algae bloom if I got really strong lighting, as I don't use any form of CO2 or ferts.

I don't think there's a cause for worrying, Tanker. The shrimp in the picture has a very defined 'saddle'. That is, eggs are developing inside the shrimp, and in a few weeks/days it might become berried if there's a male cherry shrimp in the tank. The shrimp does seem rather pale. I'm not sure...
