    DIY Wet/Dry advice

Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I will keep you posted as things progress. I think I'll give it a go either way. I might stay away from the wet/dry and just go with a refugium/sump. Either way I'll take pictures along the way and post. By all means let's not end this discussion any...

    DIY Wet/Dry advice

Thanks for all the great thoughts. As for the Overflow. I've seen them but the price I found was about double the $30 you stated. I was going to build one from two Lee's Seciment boxes. I wasn't going to build my own box just put a couple of them together. As for the Wet/Dry...I'll keep the...

    DIY Wet/Dry advice

I've got a 10 gal tank that I'd like to convert to a wet/dry filter to put under my 40 gal reef. Any hits or advice? Things to watch out for or avoid? I will also need to build an overflow. Any hints/help/suggestions are welcome.

    Hair algae battle

I've been doing some reading about this and in several places I've seen Lettuce Nudibranch (Sea Slugs) and Sea Urchin's as a good way to control hair algae. Has anyone had any experience with this?

    Hair algae battle

I've cut the 6700k blue light off as of yesterday. the 7100k is acutally a daylight bulb with a hint of yellow light. I will be picking up a 10000k which is more of a pure white light. We'll see if any of this works. I had the water tested again and everything is coming out clean. I'm also...

    Hair algae battle

Thanks for the advice. I am currently running a 7100k blue and a 6700k white. I'll dump the 6700 white and pick up a 10,000k white. Would you suggest getting rid of the 7100k blue and going with more of a 50/50 or stick with the blue?

    Hair algae battle

It's a 40 Gal SW with about 60lbs of LR. 2-3 inch crush coral bed. Both soft and stony corals, small clown and a small damsel, 2 shrimp, 2 sand sifter star fish, and a number of crabs (can't really count them). I do a 5gal water change about once every two weeks. I'm running 2 PC (192W...

    Hair algae battle

For several months now I've been battling hair algae. I just don't know how to get rid of it. My corals are growing great, everyone is happy (even the hair algae). Does anyone know of an efficient way of controlling this? I have my water tested often at the LFS and everything always comes...

    Bubble algae

Another point to keep in mind is that emerald crabs also burst open the bubbles so you're just as well of extracting them yourself. If you're worried about the big ones, go down to your local drug store and pic up a box of insulin syringe's. You can extract the liquid from the bubble using the...

    Penguin 330

Can anyone tell me what the life expectancy of a Penguin 330 would be. I've had mine for about 2 years and it's starting to rattle. It is becoming quite annoying. Topic moved to it's current forum.

    My tank-day 40

What type of lighting are you running on this tank? You had mentioned VHO. How many watts total? Any MH?

Alkalinity High but ph staying around 8.0

I would have to agree with fishfreek about removing the under gravel filter and the bubble wall.

New Outdoor Tank - 35 Gallon

I would have to agree. The summer temperatures are too high. What would you do in the winter when it's below freezing? I guess you could try it with a good chiller and heater. I would still go with the tank inside. Good luck. Let us know what you decide to do.

    Retrofit Lighting

Thanks for the links. Looks like about the same price once you purchase the bulbs. Marine Depot has 2x96 for $184 with bulbs included and AH Supply would be abour $10 more for what appears to be the same. Looks like I'm leaning towards the PC lights. Just need to find a good deal on one...

    Retrofit Lighting

Have you ordered from AH supply? Do you know what's included in "The Beast"? I don't mind wiring, I just want to make sure I get what I need. Ballast, clips, lights. You know, the basics.

    Retrofit Lighting

Can anyone provide suggestions on two lighting options I'm considering? I'm looking at either Fluorescent VHO Retrofit http://www.hellolights.com/vhoretrokits.html or Compact Fluorescent Retrofit http://www.marinedepot.com/a_lt_pc_pfo.asp?CartId= Any help would be appreciated.
