Anyone interested in discussing Rainbow fish

I always had luck going to the smaller LFS and getting them to order what I wanted. They are already getting shipments once a week / month anyway and they are happy to combine more fish on the same order to save shipping. Since I re-entered the hobby I picked up 3 Boesemani and 6 Turquoises...

Anyone interested in discussing Rainbow fish

I have been keeping Rainbowfish on and off for 12 years now. I just got my 135G going again after a few years of vacation. I started back with three Goyder River's, two turquoise and three Bosemani's. I have breed these in the past with much success. I prefer to do this in a separate tank to...

    Fish I.D. Please

Mike47517> They have these over in Athens I was there last weekend. They were asking way too much for the fish @ $42.00 each.

oak leaves to lower ph and soften water

Why do you want to lower the ph, are you trying to breed something? Be careful of what you put in your tank the side effects may be worse then what you anticipated. My ph runs 7.5 (tap water) and things have been going good for 9+ years. Plants, fish etc., are all doing good.

Water quality in St. Paul, MN

http://service.govdelivery.com/docs/STPAUL/STPAUL_472/STPAUL_472_20050616_en.pdf Although this is a few years old it looks like you can get the information from the phone numbers listed. Most f these county employees would be happy to answer your questions. You can probably even take some tap...

    DIY MH ballast

It sounded like the poster wanted to make them from scratch. You know, engineer the system and determine how much iron to cut, figure out how many wraps to put around the iron, etc, etc. I agree cccapt you can buy and assemble the pieces much cheaper...

    DIY MH ballast

Well I build stuff all of the time and can guarantee you that Radio Shack does not have this type of equipment. I have always sold industrial electrical apparatus and sold for a transformer company a few years back. To make what you are looking for would far exceed the cost of a new one. Look at...

    Need-to-Know

No under gravel filters in planted tank. The constant flow of water will not allow the root system to grow properly. As far as the egg cartons are concerned, I don't believe they or the cardboard would be a good idea in the tank. Moderators may disagree!:drain:

    ammonia issues

Dingogirl I glad to have been able to help. I'm glad somewhere down the line someone introduced you to this product. Also beware of what you read on these boards before you research it yourself. Although I don't believe most posters would intentionally give you bad information, some suggestions...

    ammonia issues

http://www.novalek.com/kordon/articles/howamquelworks.htm Your source of the ammonia may be coming from your tap water. I would further suspect this because if you have done all of these water changes and it has not gone away, your local water supply may be the culprit. I had a friend in Texas...

    What do you all think?

Reese just to let you know I really don't have a lot of money in any of these systems and for everyone else looking to get in the hobby neither do you. I am pretty conservative with my money and always look for the deals. What I do have in these systems is a lot of time and labor and on the job...

    What do you all think?

I think a Clown Loach will live pretty good with about any thing you have listed. Just remember that pretty much any fish will eat another if it will fit in it's mouth. Sword Tails and Angels will do fine with each other. Gouramis and Angels OK with each other. Corys will live with all of...

    Need-to-Know

I would also consider buying a used tank and stand and buying your supplies online. Many people get in this hobby only to find out that it is not for them. When they do this the equipment is sold for a great discount. Just make sure the glass is good and it will hold water. Scratches are best...

    What do you all think?

The Neons are what the Angels eat in the wild, so that combo will work for a few days / weeks at best. I agree with theotheragentm above. Don't rely on a critter for algae. A lot of people will think that algae eaters will solve all of your algae woes, but in reality the the only good way to...

    Which air pump for oxygenation?

http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/209767/product.web Although this may be out of your price range, the Luft Air Pump is quite and is much stronger then the Whisper brand.

    Bloated Black Ghost Knife

It seems like this thread is a little slow lately. If your fish is swimming around fine and the water is scientifically stable, I would try cutting back on his food. If you don't feel comfortable with this call a vet that specializes in fish.

    Hello

Hello we live in Loganville. It seems like this local thread is pretty slow. Anyway here are some of our tank pictures. http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg8/odessadude/?action=view&current=DSCF0344.jpg http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg8/odessadude/?action=view&current=fish_0014.jpg...

    2X4 or 4X4 for 55 gal stand??

Here are some stands I made out of 2X4's. It is more then enough to hold these 40 gallon tanks I made out of 1/2" glass. In my opinion it's better to have enough wood then not. If someone fell into one of these stands the stand would still remain. The tank would not shift either and that's one...

    My first DIY sump.

Here is a picture of my sump. The tank is an Oceanic 135 with dual overflows and the sump is a regular 75 gallon tank that was drilled. http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg8/odessadude/?action=view&current=fishtank_0007.jpg On the left side of the tank in the back you will notice the Eheim...

    Acrylic Aquarium Cover

I use 1/4" Plexiglas/Acrylic sheet from Home Depot or Lowes. After years of cutting this stuff with a Bosch jig saw, or the old razor blade method my success rate was about 75%. A month ago I started to cut this with my table saw. I am totally amazed how easy it is with the table saw. I can...
