When I was about 10 years old I got a book about aquariums from the library. It had a picture of a guppy with a blue/yellow tail - I felt I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life.
What can I put in a planted 6.5 gallon cube tank? I don’t want to put shrimp or snails in. I am trying to be low energy so avoiding a heater if possible. I think white clouds are too active for a small tank and although I have heard Endlers tolerate cool temperatures their habitat looks pretty...
I decided to get Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini' for the backdrop. It is normally pruned to 5-10 cm but I will let it grow to it's natural length of 20 cm.
This is the current state of my new 30cm cube tank (17 days old):

It has the following plants (I have put their roles next to them):
Eleocharis acicularis 'Mini' - short ground cover
Helanthium tenellum 'Green' - background curtain

The rule also changes to 0.5cm per liter for unheated water. Why would that be? The cold water will hold more oxygen and the aquatic creatures will have lower metabolism...
Well, the tank is planted but in a moment of weakness I got nervous about trying a dry start and went ahead and filled the tank. So now I have to do frequent water changes while the tank establishes itself. How critical are water changes when the aquarium is pure plant? The substrate is black...
I have been away from the hobby for about 15 years. At one point I was up to a 700 litre tank but while my fish stayed healthy I had no success with plants (unless you count algae...). Anyway after all this time the bug has bitten again and I have an open top 30cm cube coming my way.
My goal is...
