    Oceanic Skimmer

How has the Oceanic Skimmer been working for you? I was interested in purchasing one, but the air stone kinda turned me off.

    Starting a 14g Reef Nano

Thanks for the advice Sadie. I tried the Renu heater w/o any modifying and it fit perfectly (warranty is still in tact), and the dial is still accessible so I will continue to use the Renu heater. Anyone looking for a heater to place in the 1st compartment of the Biocube 14, the Renu heater will...

    Starting a 14g Reef Nano

Thanks guys for the advice and input, it is greatly appreciated. Heater-wise I saw the new Renu Heater, that if anyone else is interested might be a good fit for a nano cube w/ limited space. To avoid having the heater in the main display of the tank, I plan on trimming the bottom of the intake...

    Starting a 14g Reef Nano

I know it has been a while since I've been here, since after I moved I had to give my tank and all my fishes to my cousin who has the room to take care of them. Luckily all the fishes are doing great, and he is taking care of them real well. Due to my lack of space and the realization that I...

coralline growing fast but not purple

My coralline algae spread the same way. I first thought that it was die-off, and but realized there was nothing there to die-off. A few weeks later, my tank was blooming with the desired purple/pink color. Patience always pays off and there is no need for any chemicals. Hope that helps.

    World's Tallest Man Saves Dolphins

Interesting....I wonder why they didn't use a pole with a robotic arm at the end...or maybe just a grabber with a camera....I guess this way is more cost effective.

How often to wash/clean out my canister filter

I have a cannister filter currently as well, and I clean it reguarly once a month. That is just replacing the media, but will be adding in LR rubble as the media.

    Bummer. AKA a let down.

After seeing that crack on the tank, even I am unsatisfied. I would contact the seller of that tank immediately, and get a refund.

    Frag tank... Do I need...

I also don't have a frag tank, but my LFS does have a huge frag tank. All it really consists of is a shelves with some larger pieces of LR and then coral growing on those LR and just like mentioned above, good lighting conditions and good water flow.

I was wondering on this exact same product, does anyone have any experience with this overflow? I would really appreciate some advice on this product.

    bio balls vs live rock

I'm gonna have to side with LR rubble, it truly does a much better job as filtration and doesn't need to be constantly replaced.

    What type...

The first fish that I purchased for my 40 gallon tank was the Black and White Clownfish, and he is the hardiest, most affectionate, fish I've ever owned. He has great personality and eats anything that I'll feed him. Other good choices would be Chromis, they too are very hardy and eat just bout...

    Heater

Defintely don't mix the shrimp or the live rock with the Kick Ick, otherwise it could kill the live rock and/or any other inverts there are in the tank. It would be a great idea to start a QT tank to deal with your sick fish and especially the tang since they are prone to parasites.

Do you have a Fish Room?

Not Yet, I still plan on having a room just dedicated to my little saltwater friends, but got a little more work to do first.

    Cost for Your SW Setup

I spent a total of $1200 on my 40 gallon tank thus far, but a lot of the equipment was carried over from my FW tank.

    Do I need a skimmer?

I am a firm believer in the protein skimmer, but I should add a quality protein skimmer. And I must agree with Roka that the more LR you do have in the tank the better, if you replace the bioballs with some LR rubble, it would do a better job and doesn't require to be changed every 6months.

    Awsome Deal (i hope)

Looks like a great deal, congrats on the new tank.

    Another newbie saying hi.

Welcome to AA, I agree with Roka. SW is not much maintenence but the initial cost is expensive.
