    Adding Natural Seawater?

I have tried nsw on many occasions and I didn't notice any advantage. After talking with the owner of the LFS, he thinks that it is just easier than mixing the salt. I think that mixing makes a more reliable batch.

    Skimmer Mandatory?

I have never used a Protein Skimmer, but I have always had as much live rock as possible.

    clown fish and anemone

My Percula took almost a month to host a Sebae, but in my other tank my Gold Stripe Maroon hosted a Bubble Tip while I was still putting it in the tank.

is natural sand from beaches bad?

I gathered my own sand, some from Fort Lauderdale beach and some from an island off the Florida Keys. I didn't wash it or anything. I put it in my tank wet, and no problems a year later. I think the key is getting it from a lower traffic area and getting it from the water. If you get it from...

    food for coral beauty?????

Steamers? Just kidding, but do you really put the shell in the tank?

    Nano cube filtration question

I have a 7 gal nano that has a hang on the back and one small powerhead. I removed the HOB's sponge about 6 months ago and noticed the nitrates drop in a few weeks. I was never a believer of the "adds nitrates" theory, but I think I figured it out. If particles get caught in a sponge (or...

    problems affixing corals

For leathers I have had the best luck by rubberbanding them to a rock. It takes them 2 - 3 weeks to attach enough to remove the rubberband.

    Fish selection suggestions

How much is this? I have just over 100lbs of live rock in my 55 and I have room for more. Save you money and buy more live rock and some power heads. I don't really think hang on the backs do anything except move water. I have a 7gal at my office that is over stocked (a clown and a firefish)...

    Best way to increase salinity?

Never rely on your equipment as mrrrkva said. I had a hydrometer (swing arm type) that told me my salinity was perfect. One day I decided to take my water to the LFS because my ammonia kept showing a trace and I was sure it was wrong. Well the ammonia was at 0 as I suspected, but my...

    Bacter Vital by Marc Weiss?

I have a full bottle in my fridge. I tried it during my cycle and I really do not think it did anything. Live rock and live sand do enough to kick start the cycle in my opinion.

True Percs really like which anemone or sarcophyton/toad?

My percula took about 3 weeks to move into my Sebae. I read somewhere that you should stick pictures of clowns in anemones on your tank to remind the clownfish where he should go. I don't know which anemones perculas prefer though. I have a Goldstripe Maroon that moved into a bubble before...

    Best way to increase salinity?

As you top off your evaporated water (I think most do it daily), you would top off with saltwater (1.025) instead of freshwater. I wouldn't recommend letting it change more than .001 a day, so it should take over a week to get it to an ideal salinity.

    cleaning questions

Coral Seas Pets is a store is Fort Lauderdale. They had some GSP that I saw. I went back to get them the next day, but I missed them by about 10 minutes. They looked just like the ones in the picture you posted.

    marron goldstrip clown

I think the clown is just putting food in hid "home" for storage and coming to get it later. I read somewhere that clowns naturally bring food to their "home" whether it is a anemone, coral or even a powerhead to eat later. Only thing is that the anemone seems to eat it before he gets back to...

I know, I know...but alas, another lighting question.

You should be able to do 4x96 for around $250. $160 ($40 x4) for Bulbs $70 ($35 x2) for Ballasts $20 additional for sockets, clips and shipping. I would still go the single MH route for now even though it will be noticeable on a 6ft tank. You can then get half of the actinics if you need to...

    softened R/O Water

The RO unit is supposed to take the salt (or water a water softener uses) mostly out of the water. I have never heard of a problem with water from softener that goes through an RO unit. (but don't take my word for it) :)

    Never use FedEx

I do a lot of shipping, but I normally use UPS. I have seen them all screw up equally. Both FedEx and UPS are very good about fixing their mistakes, but USPS is the worst and will never fix/pay anything.
