I ended up donating the Koi to the local high school, after thinking of plan to build my own pond. Now I have an empty tank. I want to put fish back into it. But I don't know which type (freshwater or saltwater fishes) to get since I only had experience with the regular fancy goldfish and koi.

Did a 50% change, after the Blackout. There is some difference but there still is a lil bit of a green tinge to it, when i take out some water, and look at it in a white cup :P So I would say that the blackout was somewhat effective.

Well, I'm taking off the covers tomorrow and doing a water change too. So I'm not sure as yet if the blackout worked yet. :S I had the green water for about 3 weeks or so.

Ok. Guess I have to add an extra day to my blackout then :P

Just making sure, I should not feed my fish during the blackout?

There's currently two filters on the tank. One XP3 Canister Filter and a Emperor Bio-Wheel 400 Power Filter.

Its Green. I got a white cup, and took some water out of the tank, and there was a tint of green in it. No, i haven't got the water tested, i doubt i can reach the LFS anytime soon. Maybe, I'll just buy my own test kit.

Thanks. I had artificial plants, in the smaller tank, when the Koi were really small, but they always were pulling it out. Do you know what type of plants, i should invest in ?

Well, I don`t have the answer to that. But I used Algaecide in the aquarium, and the bottle, said that it can cause cancer in humans. I used some in my fish tank, it didnt really work that much, but I did notice, that fishes seemed more lazy and less responsive as before.

2 of the koi's are 2 and half years old, and about 14 inches each. While the other two are under a year, about 6 inches each. And the pleco is around 9 inches. So, it would be best investing in another Canister filter, for the aquarium ?

I'm only running one canister filter on it. Which is a RENA Filstar XP 3 Canister Filter. Should I have more than 1 filter on it ?
