Amazon Sword Plant and Cabomba Issues

As far as the sword, when was the last time you put in root tabs. They aren't just a one shot deal. As for the cabomba, everyone I've talked to (I tried it once and it was a no go) has told me you need absurd amounts of light, pressurized Co2 and a very strict dosing schedule to get cabomba...

Can I use household light bulbs?

If your tank is planted (I'm assuming it is given this is the planted section), you'll need to look for 'daylight' CFLs. They're usually mixed in with the regular CFLs (most stores stock them by brand). They will have 'daylight' written on the outside of the package and most also have 6500k...

How to get Water Lettuce in Florida?

Same here. Stays relatively small inside, even when I put it outside during the spring/summer in tubs it stays small. Very little info I can find, most is just people's personal experiences, can't find a scientific name on it or any legalities.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'tubes'. If you're talking about the bulbs, they're compact fluorescent bulbs, 96 watts a piece rated at 6700k. 2 switches (one per bulb) The housing is aluminum. Shipping varies between $15-$20 and between 4 days or a week transit depending on carrier.

Help! Low pH in my planted tank!

What is it going to harm? ph is basically the reading of whether your water is acidic, neutral or alkaline. For the most part, most domestically bred fish can tolerate a very large range of Ph. What they MOST care about is a STEADY ph. Not one that swings wildly. When you get into...

How to get Water Lettuce in Florida?

Anyone know the legality of the dwarf version? Have you thought of other floating plants? Frogbit, salvinia (quite a few different varieties out there), red root floater, azolla or watersprite (can be planted or left floating)

    floating plant for african cichlids

The roots on red root floaters can be trimmed although it's very unlikely that will happen especially in a cichlid tank. I second the vote for dwarf water lettuce. unchecked the roots can grow to the bottom of the tank but again, very unlikely in a cichlid tank.

    Are these roots ?

Yup, those are roots. I bought stainless steel cuticle scissors specifically for trimming plants. They have a very slight curve and they're quite short which give great control. Is that coming off a sword plant? Quite often stem plants do that because they aren't getting enough of the...

    Plant needed

Watersprite. can be planted or left floating. Great for labyrinth breathers as it gives them somewhere to put their bubbles. Also soaks up excess nitrates like a sponge

    Any Reddish Plants Out There?

Could you please tell us what you're running. I'd hate to have people mislead by your gorgeous pictures thinking they could get the same results with a standard bulb.

    Lighting help

I'd stick to low light plants and you probably won't see much growth. Keep them alive probably but alot of the light it puts out, your plants just can't use.
