Puffers live for a long time too. Figure 8's are known to live for 18+ years when kept as a singleton. But puffers in general live 10+ years, except for the dwarfs, which only live for about 2-3 years as far as anyone really knows, they're still pretty new to the hobby.

I keep my dwarfs with otos and a pleco with no problems at all. My dwarfs also had problems figuring out that snails were food at first, so I had to squish them in the water, which led to a feeding frenzy! mine also ignore freeze-dried anything, but they love frozen food.

for small semi-aggressive fish that will fit in a five gallon, i would suggest dwarf puffers. They're so much fun, have great personalities and you could put 2 in a 5 gallon. www.dwarfpuffers.com has more info.

Just out of curiosity... I want to convince my parents to build one, but need to give them a good estimate of all costs involved. That includes all materials, livestock, plants, decorations, labor, etc etc... WHat's a good ball-park estimate? Thanks!
