Yes one Common or comet goldfish for that 20gal would be good. Anything under 3 inchs. Once its bigger he needs to be rehome'd to a 40 or larger imo. I keep goldies and they are the destroyers of plants. If you get a fancy you will just make him suffer as 80% of them suck to much air get it...
I keep gold fish and have been doing so for a good amount of time. Everyone has valid points but its really all up to your taste. I just switched from a 29gallon tank with natural color gravel about 1/4 inch in size, my goldies would pick up a few at a time with food eat the food and spit out...
OKay i got a picture of mine, i think hes a False SAE aka flying fox but i could be wrong. His name is Mr Miyagi and hes a pest. It got so bad that i add'd my fish into my 55 gallon early and kept him in my 29gallon to seperate them. He was tormenting my goldies to no end : ( well hope the pic...
The only thing my goldies havnt totally devoured was my anubus but i still see them going at it likes sharks from time to time destroys a leaf or two as they see fit. If they are single tail i havnt found anything other than anubus that mine wont eat. The fancyer kind dont eat as many plants. So...
I put in an angel fish in my tank with the black sand to hold for a friend, ever sense the fight has been in there, there has been less white fungus. I just add'd all my fish today. well see how it goes

I know from previous work exp that Petsmart has a no none employee hand in tank policy. The major reason being most people ware lotion and stuff which can cause harm to fish. All of the petco's i have shoped at and bought from i always ask if i can grab what i want and they put the prices on it...
I just set up a 55 gallon flourite black sand tank. When i put in my Corydora's food : Hikari Tropical sinking wafers . the next day any uneaten food also has the same white stuff on it. Also my flake food does too, but i am cycling right now ( kinda ) I just scoop it out. But i was wondering...
I think 1 BN pleco would be fine. I have no personal exp with them but my friend has 4 in his tank for about a year now and there only 2 1/2 inchs very active eat algae and are fun to watch. His is a 36 Bowfront. So you should be okay with one
