I bought this fish a while ago, and hes mean now
I think hes a False SAE / flying fox but im not sure. Anyone know?

I named him mr miyagi

My first thought was SAE when I saw the pic.

He is a SAE, he has the stripe running through the tail.

I would say Flying Fox, as all the SAE's I've had do not have black on their dorsal fins or such a distinct gold stripe. Also the black stripe on this fish is smooth not zig zagged on the edges like that of an SAE. The black on the tail is not diagnostic, see the "algae eating cyprinids" link above, both SAEs and FFs have the black band through the tail. I've also not had any problems with my large SAEs being aggressive while Flying Foxes have a reputation for aggression.

it is a false sae. i recently purchased a pair that i thought were true sae due to the black stripe going through the tail and not long after it disappeared. the gold stripe above the black and the colored fins class it as false or flying fox.

I didn't even notice the gold stripe. I thought it was a reflection. Good catch!
