Yippie I finally after months of switching around tanks and like 3 or 4 different pairs and fights and beatings I finally have a pair of my Black Convicts that have fry. I'd suggest getting a new test kit, you have to test for Ammonia. If the ammonia is high it will poison your fish and it will die a painful death.
