Simply put: Because dilution is the solution to pollution.

55 Gal (1 year old) Pictures

Just chiming in...I think it looks great and I'm glad to hear that the anemone is doing well. As to your original question about what to do to make the tank look better. I think you should get creative with your rock stacking. Like the other poster said, make some pass-throughs, caves, and...

    New Reef Tank

Hello all. This is my first real post on this forum. I had a quick post before asking for help with my soft corals. Thanks to everyone who responded (OniTweak, Roka64, Ziggy, NewFound77951, melosu58, austinsdad, and pat8you) to that post and provided helpful advice. The source of my problems...

    Reno area?

Hey Bert, I am pretty new to the SW thing. Just switched my tank over 4 weeks ago in fact. I have a 47 Gallon tank and I just installed a new light fixture with a 250 watt MH, 2 actinic, 2 blue fluorescents, and blue and white led moon lights. WOW - It is bright! I had a little trouble...

    Reno area?

The timing of these posts is funny. First in 2003, then one in 2005, and then Bert chimed in 3 years later. haha Well I am going to chime in 5 years after the original post. I'm in Reno! Doesn't look like the link for the regional forum is working anymore. Is there still a regional forum...

    new tank.

Yeah, I was 'forced' in to the switch in a way. My LFS switched to all SW, so I decided it was time for me to make the jump too. The tank is cycled and has a few critters in it an seems to be doing great. Again, I will get some pics up soon and direct you to them. Are you going to keep this...

    new tank.

COOL! I have the exact same tank. It is definitely a pain in the rear to get to the bottom of the tank, but otherwise, I love it. I just switched from FW to SW, so I will post some pictures soon. Enjoy :-)

New Soft Coral seems sick... (PICS)

Austinsdad, thanks! Ammonia explanation makes perfect sense. The live rock I bought was supposed to be cured, I think, because it was kept in a large shallow tank with lights and skimmer and circulation. The substrate was also supposed to be 'good to go' because it came wet. In any case, I...

About the rock being "cured" I am not sure what that means. :bowl:

New Soft Coral seems sick... (PICS)

I guess my lack of experience is really showing here.... I was told by the local 'expert' that with the live rock and live sand that the cycle would be very quick. I took water samples to the lfs after that 4 days and they tested and said everything was looking good to start populating the...

New Soft Coral seems sick... (PICS)

Thanks for the prompt reply Tweak. I will get parameters up asap. I realized I still have a freshwater test kit, so I need to get one for sw. Why is bubble algae a 'problem'? Is it invasive/ aggressive? Thanks again.

New Soft Coral seems sick... (PICS)

Second post here, loving all the information! I am new to the sw thing and I have been trying to read up in the past few days. Switched 50 Gallon tank to sw, added live substrate and live rock and let the tank cycle for 4 days. Yesterday I got a couple of starter corals from the lfs...

    New Member Here

Hey everyone! I am a complete newb when it comes to salt tanks. I have had fresh water tanks for years, but when my local fish shop converted to an all saltwater store I decided it was time to make the jump. Last evening I cleaned out my 50 gallon tank, washed everything up, filled the tank...
