To Filter or Not to Filter . . . at night

I have a 29 Gallon eclipse with only live rock, blood shrimp, Clown, Blue Tang and Royal Gramma. These are the only survivors of my ambitiously stocked tank. I've recently become a light sleeper and been bother by the sound of that filter at night. I've been contemplating putting the filter...

    Fleshy Coloured Corals Sick? Lighting?

My LFS found a retrofit kit for my tank; but it only has one 65watt bulb with both colours. Is 2 watts per gallon still to low then?

gonna need advice on my nano

    1. its probably just a shell 2. not really. but they have been known to swap their shells 3. general rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per 5 gallons; but I've read that the ratio can be 1 inch per two gallons if you load with 1 pound of rock per gallon and a protein skimmer 4. you should cycle...

I'd suggest the following: skunk cleaner shrimp, sand sifting star fish, cleaner wrasse.

    Great deal on nano kit

Wow that's a great deal. I wonder if one of the LFS will have it in stock and offer the web price.

    29g tank

What is base rock. I'd use all live rock so you get the added filtration.

    Fleshy Coloured Corals Sick? Lighting?

The Long term plan for the Tang is to swap it for some higher powered lighting. Seriously, I went to LFS yesterday and the guy tried to sell me different bulbs (a blue and i think a replacement white light); with same or lower wattage. Would this do anything for the colour? Note that most of...

    mushrooms broke off

I have seen this happen. If you are picky about where the mushroom relocates too, maybe pick it up and set in an area with low circulation. It'll stay there if it likes it.

    Fleshy Coloured Corals Sick? Lighting?

I have several different kinds of corals all which boasted many different colours when I bought them. Since putting them in my aquarium, I have noticed that they all changed colour and now look the same pink/beige fleshy colour. I've attached a picture of my aquarium. It includes various...

    Lava Rock In SW Tank

I was reading that I could use Lava Rock from my old FW setup in my new SW tank; And that critters and algae would grow just as easily as it would on Live Rock. Are there any key advantages or disadvantages of using Lava Rock in a SW tank. I have a 30Gallon tank with about 24 pounds of Live...

    Fire Goby Aggression

I have a 30 Gallon SW setup with juvenline clown, Blue Tang, Royal Gramma, Cleaner Shrimp. I recently added a fire goby which I thought was a peaceful addition. This may be the case except for the odd quarrel with my beloved Blue Tang. Has anyone seen this type of aggression before? Should i...

Is my Blue Tang shy or dying?

thanks everyone. I'm seeing more of this behaviour but have also seen more movement too. My Blue Tang now moves around the tank, picks at seaweed on a clip, and tries to nip at pellets that are falling or hit the ground. As Justin says they have small mouths and I see it actually take smaller...

Is my Blue Tang shy or dying?

Thanks very much. I just purchased some of BigAl's Seaweed Delight and a mounting clip. Will try that for my new addition. Thanks.

Is my Blue Tang shy or dying?

Hi there, I just bought a blue tang to keep my clownfish company; and expected the same "movement" that I saw in the LFS or from my clown. When I gradually introduced it to the tank, it went deep in the LR and comes out only briefly but can be seen peeking from inside small holes in the rock...

Converting 29 Gallon Eclips from FW to SW

Thanks. I have the water cycling right now and have arranged my LR. Just wondering if I need to use an Air Pump for any reason at all. Just thinking as I piled my rock without considering air line placement.

Converting 29 Gallon Eclips from FW to SW

thanks for all your advice. I had mixed the Saltwater and let it settle for a day. I put about an inch or two of live sand and just yesterday bought about 22 pounds of live Rock. the sand has finally settled, and I feel it's a waiting game now. FYI on the term "scout fish" . . . I got it from...

Converting 29 Gallon Eclips from FW to SW

Hi there, I recently decided to convert my 29 Gallon Eclipse to Saltwater. I started out with about 25 very small cichlids. They used to play friendly games of tag and hide-and-seek; But over the past 6 months they've grown to be quite unloving to each other . . . resulting in weekly casualties...
