    Red Devil Cichlids?

I have two red devils in a 75g tank with a green terror and a bumblebee. I used to have 2 green terrors and 2 bumblebees....if that tells you anything. Red devils do not play nice with each other especially. The larger dominate one has grown to almost 6 in. in just 6 months. While the other...

My Red Devil Cichlid has black lips

That what I was hoping for, it just scared me because the transformation practically happened overnight. He is growing quite fast though, outpacing the other fish significantly and he is quickly becoming the boss of the tank. Although he doesn't mess with the green terror at all, I saw him nip...

My Red Devil Cichlid has black lips

Thanks I will try and take a picture when i get home today. His fins are noticebly darker around the edges now. And his lips are now 3/4 black. Top and bottom on one side and just the bottom on the other side. It's really quite strange. Once again he seems completely healthy otherwise.

My Red Devil Cichlid has black lips

My red devil, who seems very healthy, eats fine, exhibits normal behavior, and is the most agressive in the tank suddenly exhibited color changes. His fins seemed to darken a bit and on one side of him, his lips turned completely black. It looks almost like someone colored one side of his...

The mystery of the disappearing fish.

I recently stocked my tank with 2 bumblebee cichlids, 2 green terror cichlids, and 2 red devil cichlids. Night 1 of the tank, one of the green terror cichlids disappeared completely. I've found no trace of him. I've searched the room and surrounding area to no avail, and no mysterious...

    Green Terror Missing

Done. The tank is fully cycled, i completed a fishless cycle (it took over a month) I realize now my original post wasn't very clear as I used the word "started" instead of "stocked".

    Green Terror Missing

Any idea if you can buy sheets of acrylic at a craft store? Or any advice for a cheap option? The opening of my tank is significantly smaller than the tank itself, the tank is 48"L x 18"W and I would say the opening on the top is only about 36"L x 10"W with a 1" strip through the middle. Any...

    Green Terror Missing

I stocked my first tank yesterday, a 75g. I bought 2 green terror cichlids, 2 red devils, and 2 bumblebee cichlids. All the fish were young and of similiar size, about 1.5in. The tank has been in my living room for several months and finally completed the cycle. I realize this is probably...

    My First Tank

They seem to have acclimated pretty well. Although, one of the red devils is being a pretty big jerk and is bullying the other. He's taken up shelter in the krusty krab to keep safe.

    Finally Cycled!!!

Well I ended up going with 2 bumblebee cichlids, 2 green terror cichlids and 2 red devil cichlids, all about the same size. So far they have been pretty peaceful and it's been a joy watching them in the tank.

    Finally Cycled!!!

I don't remember off hand what type they were, i might have to use my cell phone in the pet store to look them up.

    Finally Cycled!!!

After 6 long months of spending money, manual labor (refinishing the base), and patiently waiting. My 75g is finally cycled and ready for fish! I did a water change last night and added conditioner to allow everything to run overnight. I will check the levels when I get home and I expect it to...

    Cycling 75gal

My 75g just started cycling after over a month. Give it more time, I was starting to lose faith but then one day that nitrite test turned purple and it felt goooooood.

    Woohoo! Finally cycling!!

Well, I took a trip to petco today and I was pretty surprised at the amount of freshwater fish they had there. There were a few things that caught my eye as future pets: Bamboo shrimp - I thought these were super cool and would love to have a few of these Pleco - Definitely going to get one...

    Woohoo! Finally cycling!!

Thanks thats not a bad idea. Unfortunately for me I've been searching the area for any true LFS' and haven't been able to find one. There is one in the next town over, but they were blasted in reviews online. Is going to a place like petco an absolute no-no? I imagine the selection won't be...

    Woohoo! Finally cycling!!

After several long weeks, and several headaches. I finally hit the nitrite spike in my 75g freshwater today. I had numerous problems, wrong ammonia first to begin with. But it was about 3.5 weeks ago that i started over with the right type of ammonia. This time it worked and I am pumped...

    I think I screwed up.

Well, I finally found an Ace hardware in the next town over and picked up some surfactant free ammonia. I emptied the tank today, rinsed off the legos and gravel a bit and refilled the tank, I then ran the filter... emptied again, and refilled. Figured it was best to try and remove any and all...

    I think I screwed up.

Also, upon further investigation today the ammonia definitely is foaming and not just bubbling, it was "colorful" reflecting light like an oil or soap would.

    I think I screwed up.

I think i'm gonna take that route, would a media bag work? I have one lieing around, I figured I would stick the shrimp on there and throw it in the tank

    I think I screwed up.

Hmm, according to the "fishless cycling for dummies" post that said 0.5ppm, and regurgitated the info for clarity. I'm thinking I might just do another total water change and give the raw shrimp thing a try.

    I think I screwed up.

Upon shaking the bottle I did get bubbles. It was not a crazy amount, and it didn't sustain. But there was a noticeable "foam" at the top of the bottle. I'm thinking because it was a cheap brand / bottle that their may have just been impurities causing it?
