What kind of Vics do you have, I have mbipi, ruby greens and fulus? They like a ph of 7.8 to 8.2 lots of hiding places. Omnivores, but need more veggie than meat. To much meat can cause bloat. Most will hybridize with other vics. Most are on a species protection program.

Are you sure you have it connected tight. If it didn't seat right it will do that.

Pull out the impeller and make sure there is no crud around it or in the base where the impeller goes. I had one that had gotten a snail in there and it rattled like crazy till I cleaned that out.

Oto's also don't eat very many types of algae, mostly the algae they eat is the film that grows on your glass, and the brown algae. So even if a piece in your established tank doesn't look like it has anything on it, it will have a biofilm on it that they will enjoy.

To get them to eat you might try taking some deco or plants out of your established tank and put into the quarantine tank. There should be some algae on them for them to eat.

No it don't come in black, I just bought black blasting sand for $11 for an 80 lb bag. Pool filter sand around here cost 7. per 40 lb bag, but can only find it in brown.

Put your filter in a bucket of tank water keeping the filter material wet. If it isn't to long of a distant you can take the bucket to the new place and plug the filter in to keep the bacteria alive.
