    Recommendations please :)

For a 55 gal I would go a cichlid route. As far as sand you can mix som regular gravel with it, fine sand will eventually stop creating dust once you get some bacteria on it. For sure do a fishless cycle and add lots of ammonia so you get a good Bacteria Colony as for cichlids it's best to...

    Still Cycling?

O I just did 50% PWC and added more ammonia, I will test latr tonight, I read somewhere that if your Nitrate is over 80 ppm it can stall your cycle.

    Still Cycling?

Well weird thing is this, My API Drip Test kt reads Nitrite 1 PPM Nitrate 160PPM Ammonia 0 I think I put to much ammonia in the first time so that usually means Nitrite last longer correct? I addded more Ammonia today it is staying at 0 so thats good Test Strips Nitrite off the charts...

Doing Fishless Cycle with pure ammonia Adding -5 drops of Ammonia per day I thought I be finished by now, tank started April 4th Right now Ammonia 0 Nitrite 1.0 Nitrate 160 ppm Should I do a water change to lower Nitrate as I heard that can stall the cycle. I have live plants in...

    Inch Per Gallon

Eja206 what size tank you have for the goldfish? Goldfish really need 10-20 gallons per goldfish to survive a good life. Sure goldfish can live in a smaller environment but usually will die 1-3 years, if you give them more water/space they can live 20 years or longer. This biggest problem is...

    Inch Per Gallon

Actually Goldfish need 2 - 3 gallons of water per inch and Oscars need 3 - 5 gallons per inch because there messy fish, Personally I wouldnt put a pleco in a tank less then 55 gallons there messy and get quite large. I agree it's not really a good rule because it has variables to it. I also...

Please help with my hard water problem.

I heard of people mixing RO with Tap that may help. Peat Moss and Driftwood can lower PH, but really a stable PH is what you try to achieve when you mess with PH is really the problem soif you want to lower PH do it naturally with Driftwood.

Please help with my hard water problem.

Instead of drip method you can do this: Float bag for 20 minutes; test ph in bag and your tank; add 1/4 cup of your tank water to bag every 15 minutes once bag is 3/4 full remove some and repeat process. What your trying to do is match your tank parameters to the bag but even if they match you...

Help with starting a Kuhli loach tank

tetras should go in a 20 gallon tank at min, 6 - 10 because they like to be in a group.

    why.....?

also maybe the container was washed with soap and that could of been a problem plus no Air, when you get fish from LFS they either add Air in or bag it so you get 75% air, 25% water. I hope this makes sense

Please help with my hard water problem.

Exactly, as long as ph is stable it's fine just remember to accilimate them properly, best way is to let bag float for 20 minutes then get a bucket/Air Hose with a T connector to control drops and use a drip method 3 drips per second do this for at least half hour depending on your PH, test the...

What type of fish are good tank mates for Kissing Gourami's??

30 gallon is Min so to be honest it would be better for a 55 gallon tank, in a small tank there is more agression and kissing ones are pretty agressive.

    Lighting and algae.....

Any small amount of Ammonia/Nitrite is unsafe so you will need to do a pwc, check your source water it's possible it has nitrite.

    How important is Ph?

Basically the way to lower PH is to use driftwood, to raise ph you will need crushed coral or Calcium Sand, never use PH up or Down or any buffers this will make PH swing which is far worse. As long as ph is stable it's fine.

    Lighting and algae.....

It's normal because when you cycle the tank will have excess of ntrients in the water. Yo can cut the light time for now, test your water for Ammonia, No2 and No3, I would suggest using prime with fish cycling. If you see any ammonia or No2 you will need to do a partial water change, fish...

    10g with 3 glofish

Ok so there is 2 cartridges? I thought top fin filters had 1 cartridge which has both carbon and cotton in it. even then though a sponge dont hold as much bacteria surface then a biowheel or Biomax does. The more Biomax the more bacteria and less of a problem with NO3, if you have NO3 problems...
