Lately I've been noticing brown patches/spots around my 5 gallon aqarium. I can't quite figure out what it is...could it be brown algae?
If so, is it harmful for my fish?
Here's a picture of the brown spots:
Actually both the mollies keep going face up at the surface. I just did a 40% water change but before the water change the ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0 and nitrate was around 40ppm. The nitrate should now be lower. The temperature is also 4 degrees lower. My platies also keep poking the mollies...
I have a 5gallon that finished cycling and I have two platies and two mollies. One of my molly is pregnant and she is swimming head up, is that a sign that she is going to have her fry soon or is she ill?
Thanks for your answer. The store isn't open tomorrow and I didn't feel like going on Tuesday so I just went out today and got 2 mollies and 2 platies. :)
My 5 gallon fish tank has been cycling for over two weeks now. Yesterday around 4pm I added 9drops of ammonia. Today I didn't add any and when I tested the ammonia and nitrite, both are 0 and when I tested nitrate it is 5-10ppm. Is my tank done cycling and ready to add fish?
Thank you for your help. So just keep adding the 9 drops until everything goes down to zero? Lol, nope, no goldfish! I actually give up on goldfish. Haha I couldn't keep them alive in my 20 gal
I have a five gallon that I'm currently cycling. I'm adding ammonia and testing the water every day. I have been adding 9 drops of ammonia per day. As of today, the ammonia is 3-5ppm and the nitrite is around 3-5ppm also. Do I start adding 4 or 5 drops of ammonia now or do I keep adding 9? I'm a...
I'm cycling my 5 gallon aquarium and I started cycling it on 9/14. On 9/14 I added 18 drops of ammonia, on 9/15 I added 18 drops and the ammonia was 3-5ppm, on 9/16 I added 18 drops of ammonia and it was 8ppm. I tested the nitrite and it was .25ppm or lower. Today (9/17) I tested the ammonia and...
If I were you I would limit the light to 8-10 hours per day because 12 hours per day might be the reason why you're getting algae. High nitrates will also cause algae so I would test and see what it is. Good luck.
I don't feel as bad now. haha Should I test the water every day when it's cycling? Would testing the water every week be ok when it's cycled? Thanks for all of your help.
Thanks, I will do that. ;) Do you know approx. how long AP's test kit lasts? I hate testing every day because I'm afraid I'm going to use it all and it's very expensive. lol
Thank you, about how many drops of ammonia should I add? Yesterday the ammonia was 3-5ppm but now it's 8ppm and maybe higher since it has a blue tint but it's very green.
I'm currently cycling my 5 gallon fish tank. I have API's freshwater master test kit and my ammonia level is around 8ppm and my nitrite level is not even .25ppm. I heard that when you start to see nitrite, you decrease the amount of ammonia you put in by half. Is that correct? Right now I'm...
I only have 3 goldfish now, another one died. Yes, I was doing 50% water changes every week.
Before I got my 4 goldfish (now I only have 3) the ammonia was at 3ppm so I did a 100% water change and took a lot of poop out of the gravel. The ammonia recently has not been at exactly 0 but at one...
A 20 gallon was just sitting in my basement so I researched on fish for about a year before deciding to get any. I cycled my tank with ammonia which took 3 weeks. After 3 weeks I decided to add 1 fantail goldfish, 15 days later, he died. Then I bought 3 more goldfish after 15 days each one died...
