    Copepods

Dumb question....:) I received an order for a cleanup crew that included 3 sponges filled with copepods. Since I don't have a refugium, do I put them directly in the tank or in the filter area? I have a 28 Nanocube. Thanks

    Media Basket DIY Question

Good morning.. I have two of the Nanocube LED tanks and was looking forward to getting rid of the stock media baskets and using the inTank version, however, the baskets are too large for the tank and inTank can't custom cut. While they are aware of the problem and acknowledge the issue, they...

    Jawhead

Quesiton...does anyone else have or had a jawfish that lived in multilpe burrows...at the same time? Mine has built three (of course avoiding the one I built FOR him) in different areas of the tank and he moves between them during the day, though he still prefers his orginal burrow for night time.

    Nasty Surprise

I didnt get a photo..it was grossing me out too much. I pulled a piece of liverock out of my established tank to transfer it to my new setup. I turned it over and was picking off the stringing sand and it MOVED. Come to find out, it was a bristle worm, looked black in color but that was probably...

    Yellow-Headed Jawfish

OK, I am going to cave in and ask :) A setup in one of my LFS' has a couple of yellow headed jawfish that I am quite taken with and I am thinking I want one of these guys for a 28NC. I have one 28 setup with a Clown and a Tailspot Blenny and while the sandbed may be shallow, I can certainly...

    28 Nanocube Build

OK, I got everything started. I am shifting the contents of a 14G Biocube into two separate 28 Nanocubes. About 5 weeks ago I started curing extra liverock, however, my eyes estimated a lot more rock than I have room for in the NCs :). The good thing is that all the rock is fully cured. One...

Tank Upgrading and Transfer of Existing DT Rock and Livestock

I am in the process, or will be today, of setting up two-28 gallon Nanocubes. Here is the problem. Some of the liverock I want to use in aquascaping the 28s is in my currently running 14 Biocube. The Biocube will be coming down completely once the 28s are up. All the tanks holding the extra...

    Good macroalgae or bad macroalgae?

HI all :)...Happy Friday..at last. I am pretty sure this is a grape algae of some sort. I am seeing differing views as to whether it is a good algae or a bad algae. Can someone clue me in please?

    Coral Care Site

Let me first say I apologize if this is the wrong forum and perhaps the moderators can move it to the appropriate location :) I'm embarrassed to say that other than the NPS, non-photosynthetic, label, I had no idea what LPS and SPS stood for when it came to corals. I finally did a search and...

Blenny Abdomen Bloat - Successful Treatment

I wanted to post this in the event someone else comes across the same problem. I have a Tail Spot blenny in quarantine as a new arrival; he has been there for two weeks now as of this past Saturday. A few days ago I noticed the abdomen looked distended. It wasn’t extreme but there was a...

    Crab ID

Hi All.... I ws re-arranging some of theliverock in the process of curing and I found my first live hitch hiker; a brown crab just a chowin' down. The pic is al ittle fuzzy..couldn't get a clear one and then he realized I was watching and skittered down into the rock. Any ideas on type?

28G Nano LED Interm: Let the Build Begin

What an adventure to date. I already have a 14 BC running but decided I couldn't stand only two fish and I wanted to play with more coral..sooooooooo I bought a 28G NC LED and then a couple of weeks later won a second one in a raffle. That is a raise of 42 galllons :). I've been building up...

    Very Young Brittle Star? Worm?

Good morning... As I was taking my last look last night into my tank, I spotted these three "legs" sticking out from under a piece of liverock. At first I thought they were bristle worms but the legs are striped black and white and are very narrow but solid..not see through. I would call them...

28G Nanocube LED: Microbubbles from both returns

I fnally got the time to start one of the Nanocubes, the reason mainly to spread out the new liverock for curing. My one 20 gallon tank wasn't quite big enough for all of the new rock as some pieces I got from one source were bigger than I requested..I have a lot of downsizing to do on some...

    Do Peppermint Shrimp Eat Corals?

Evening... I went to another LFS today, well, not so local..it was 40 miles away :) and making good on the trip, picked up a Hammer Coral frag. I have it in the perfect spot, away from any other corals so even the sweeper tentacles can't reach anything sensitive. (Had to do some...

    Blenny Feeding

Hi All... One of my recent arrivals is a Tail Spot blenny. WHen I first started feeding him and his clown companion, I was using Mysis shrimp, however, I quickly noticed the blenny wasn't entirely enthusiastic. I did some quick research and realized blennies are herbivores...(oops). I...

    New Arrivals

I have to admit this is a good time to transport fish cross country :). I had ordered one of these Tail Spot blennies from LiveAquaira back in August, but, since the trip was going from California to Maryland and the heat that week was in the 100s more or less across the entire country, the...

    Scare with 14G Biocube

Good morning all..let me relay a story. I added a heater and did a water change, roughly 30%, on my 14 reef on Wednesday night (29 Sep) just before going out of town for the weekend on Friday. I made sure the heater was working properly over the day and a half I was still home. Temps in my...

    Setting Up Quarrantine Tank

Good morning all... I need to set up a QT for some new saltwater fish arrivals. I have an established reef but no seeded sponge material I can use since I use the inTank media basket. I have some, ahem, "dirty" (hey, only by a few days) filter floss and some Chemi-pure elite that has been in...

    28G Nanocube LED

Good morning all... I finally gave in to my drooling and indecision and have purchased the new LED Advanced tank. I am trying to determine, however, the maximum length of the heater so I can order that as well without waiting until the tank actually gets here. I am making the assumption I...

    pH Issue

Good afternoon all :) For a start, the pH of my tap water is 8.4. I had to completely break down and clean a 10g due to a complete die off and reset using only my tap water..(on the previous set-up I had used RO water that I had retreated with Kent's RO Right). I currently have a small...

    Just Something Silly....

I just fed the inverts in my biocube..not really a big deal most of the time. I drop some pellets in for the peppermint shrip and larger hermits and some bloodworms or such for the rest and everyone happily munches. To keep food from flying all over the tank or into the media, I shut off the...

Max pH Change at Water Change

I really should already know the answer to this question. My tap water pH is 7.4. I have, however, been using RO/DI water to make the water changes and pH there measures 6.4. Preferring a nice level pH of 7.0, I usually do a half RO/DI, half spring water change (pH 7.0). Usually after I...

    Overflow vs No Overflow

I reduced my tank footprint by selling my 75, however, I found this 65 gallon cube that is looking pretty, uhm, interesting :) and the place where the 75 was sitting is looking pretty empty. The 65 is already drilled, one corner overflow and ocmes with the sump set-up. I had read somewhere...

    14g Biocube: Paranoid Cycling Question

Good morning all :) I am getting a constant Ammonia reading of .25 and I wasn't checking for Nitrates figuring the cycle was still ongoing. Since I was testing the fresh tanks, I went ahead and did the Nitrate on the reef and got a reading of 160. I just did about a 75% water change and will...
