    Back from hiatus

And got my 65 gallon back up and running, added some new rock and old fish (thankfully my friend fishsat them). So I snapped some cool pics. Still a work in progress, I want more rocks and less fake stuff.

    10g Bowfront build

Hey all, new to SW & Reef but been keeping Cichlids for years. After a hiatus (lots of moving etc) I've got my 65 Gal Malawi tank back up and running and just purchased a 10g Bow Front and looking to start up a nano reef. I've lurked and read a lot here, so I've come prepared. And thanks to my...

    Calcium Sand

A friend of mine works at pet store here and is giving me a bunch of sand, got 1 bag so far but it's Calcium sand with pictures of reptiles on it....Is this stuff alright for Cichlids or fish in general? My tank has Kenyi, Otopharynx lithobates, Melanochromis Johannii and a Green Sunfish.

    computer fans

lol I had a couple extra adapters and just rewired it directly to two 120mm fans and taped them up good with electrical tape. Not really recommended.

Good deal, if it's too big just resell it.

    Crushed Coral

Cool, I kinda want that dark sand anyways, I'll hold off.

    Crushed Coral

So just got 65gal for free and it came with a load of crushed coral for substrate. Is this safe to use for fw? I hear its typically used as a pH buffer. And my tap water is already pretty good for Cichlids.

    Preparing used tank?

As for salt stains, a razor blade works awesome. I just cleaned an entire 65 salt tank that had been sitting in a garage for months with one :)

    What a steal

If I go that far I'll end up getting rid of the couch for an aquarium too lol

    What a steal

Don't be, I don't even know if I have room for it...Well, I could put it in my kitchen...hmm or get rid of my bed?

    What a steal

I almost feel bad for this deal...Nahh. My uncle was dropping off a computer for me to fix and mentioned his friend had an aquarium for sale, $50...I figured it'd be something smaller than what I already have. 100 Gallons! Stand, 2 filters, decorations, fish and all for $50 and its even being...

    Good deal?

They did send pics but they were on a really bad angle, I did pick out the Eheim filter though. They might have failed at fish but they're probably breeding children, that's even scarier to me lol.

    Good deal?

I had to deal with these people earlier who kept giving me the dimensions of their tank ??? x width x height, then the entire height of it with the stand. What about the length? I said, after 3 e-mails I gave up.

    Shrimp Anyone?

They can carry horsehair worms, but it was most likely nitrates if you had them in a community tank.

    Alligator in the weeds..

Great photos and tanks. Life must be exciting down there, all I have to worry about are polar bears, and they're going extinct.

    too hot to handle

Welcome, I know very little about SWRA and even less about chillers, but I've heard about DIY ones that are a lot cheaper, made from little bar fridges, plus nothing is better than a cold beer whilst watching your fish. Something to check out ;)

    Hermaphrodite Kenyi?

Really weird, I've had this one Kenyi that was supposed to be a male, started to turn blue, but the tips of its dorsal and *cough* anal fin are yellow. After introducing female, the heshe looks as if it's turing yellow now... Could have sworn I've heard someone else experiencing this before.

Please advise: Is my filter big enough?

I'll eventually have to get one like that, as I'm going to have to downgrade my furniture to upgrade my tanks lol. Thank Christ I'm not married.

    aquarium stand?

I've stopped by yard sales lately looking for furniture that can hold a lot of weight. I actually did buy a coffee table that could handle a 90g for $20, the only problem is it's not that high. So I stuffed it in the garage, either way it was a nice piece of solid wood from the 60's.

    Good deal?

Those are great prices here in Canada heh. I'd gladly pay $50 for a 100 gallon unless it was horribly scratched. Even then expect to pay twice as much argh. Plus there's no craigslist listings for aquariums here, we've got another site where people can't even give you proper dimensions, yet...

    Finally Identified

Yeah see them everywhere in Canada too, mostly the pumpkinseed ones in the lakes I've fished.
