    Ready for Fish?

I've decided I've been a bit too impatient and I put another piece of rock in there and i'll give it another fortnight or so before thinking about fish. One question though that I can't find any online advice about, would it be alright to be a couple of snails in there while the cycling is going...

    Ready for Fish?

Thanks for the replies. My tank is about 200L, to cycle I just put in substrate (not live) and 12 kilos of live rock and switched off the skimmer (left filter running). I have had a bit of brown algae come up, which from what I've read in the last 24 hours could explain the zero nitrate reading...

    Ready for Fish?

Hi guys, Your thoughts on my situation would be much appreciated! I've been cycling my new saltwater tank for the last 17 days and I tested 2 days ago and it had a PH of 7.6 and roughly 0 ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. I added something recommended by the aquarium shop to bump up the PH after...

    Dead Live Rock?

Hi guys, So I've set my aquarium up and have three pieces of live rock in there to cycle it. It's only been in there for 3 days but the live rock has turned quite white in a lot of patches, which I assume means it's dying off in some way. Does this mean I need to get new rock to cycle the tank?

    The Salt....

Lately I've spent a lot of money trying to set up my saltwater aquarium just right and do everything by the book, but I've since talked to various people I know who say they just got water straight from the ocean and put it in their tank with a normal filter and have had a thriving tank full of...

    New Saltwater Tank

Thanks for all the help. I went back and saw the tank just then (it's at my new place that I haven't moved into yet) and its cleared up a lot even in the last 4 hours, but I've switched off the skimmer and filter and will leave it off for 24 hours and see how it is tomorrow night. Thanks again!

    Introduction....

Hi guys, i'm new to the site so I thought I'd post a bit of an introduction. I'm a uni student from Australia and I've just bought a 4ft and 200L tank in the last couple of days. I've wanted a salt water tank for quite a while, but having coral is just a little beyond me at this point so it will...

    New Saltwater Tank

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, and salt water aquariums! I've just got a 200L tank and set it all up with filter and protein skimmer (no chiller as i won't be having coral unfortunately) and I filled it with salt water yesterday. Here's where my possible problem starts: Today I went and bought...
