    Thinking about trying African Cichlid

But, how much can Crushed coral in a filter actually bring my PH in a 60gal Tank if I have neutral water from the Tap?

Three weeks and nitrites still off the chart

Hehe... I feel your pain... IME, I had the exact same issue. I tried the fishless thing twice and both had the same results. I ended up doing 2x 50% PWC, and the next day I went and got 12 Zebra Danios (in my 60g Tank) and monitored the levels daily. It cycled the next week.

    Thinking about trying African Cichlid

Hey, So, about two years into FW Community fish keeping and all still running nice and healthy. I have been looking into making a step to African Cichilds but my only concern or should I say Question is... My Tap / Tank PH is flat at 7.0 and I've been reading about mixing PFS with Crushed...

    Tiger Barbs dying

No Large amount of Ammonia / Nitrite? What are the readings? On a cycled tank, there shouldn't be any of these showing up..

Three weeks and nitrites still off the chart

Patience is the only answer. Keep feeding the Bacteria and your Nitrites will eventually drop to 0. If you have stopped adding ammonia for a while, you may have reduced the amount of Good bacterias and therefore it may take a lil' longer. Welcome to AA

    Tiger Barbs dying

Hello, Maybe review the stocking list of your tank. As for the fish death, any amounts of Ammonia / Nitrites are considered Toxic to fish, and will kill them above 0.50PPM. I would recommend keeping up with water changes and daily testing. Sounds like the Tank has NOT been cycled.

    Neon Tetras Acting Weird

I used to stress alot when I first started... Since then, I've let nature take its way. My tanks are all fairly stocked and I have not tested the water in a year (But I do keep up with my weekly maintenance). I have not had 1 fish death since. I think sometimes we do too much to try to help, but...

    please help.

Also, there is no need for Carbon Filter. You can remove that part of the filter. Unless your filter is falling apart, just "Swoosh" your dirty filter in old tank water (NOT TAP WATER as it will kill the Good Bacteria) with every PWC (about 30-50% weekly) Welcome to AA

    Neon Tetras Acting Weird

Hmm. So from what you're saying, my Tetras act pretty much the same except for the pecking the water... Unless they have a noticeable issue (like bloat, gasping, damaged scale, No appetite).. if it was me, I'd just let them be. Your Params are excellent, so I'd just keep an eye on them but not...

    Test Results on New 10gal

As for your PH, don't worry about it. Don't use chemicals to get any levels down or up... It does more harm than good. Let nature take care of the PH. A "Stable" PH is more important than a PH that swings. 7.6 Is not bad.

    Test Results on New 10gal

You're almost there. Once you start seeing Nitrates and the Ammonia goes to 0 it's almost time to party.. Poor Fish. 1 Nitrite is too much. Do a PWC 50% to bring Nitrites below 0.5PPM. Change only the water. DO NOT Gravel Vac or change your Filter Media. Also, don't forget to use Dechlor. Treat...

I just got an 55 gallon aquarium

Oh, and if you don't have one already... Get a Python or some knock-off system. It makes PWCs so much easier, especially on bigger tanks.

I just got an 55 gallon aquarium

I may get slapped for saying this, but to each their own... I Cycled all my tanks using fish. Zebra Danios to be exact. I must say this! Get ready for alot of PWC's.. I kept my Ammonia & Nitrites 0.25PPM the whole time! Required 50% PWC every couple days. Takes about 4 weeks to cycle a NEW...

    My cherry barbs are pigs!

I have a similar problem with my Tank. I have 1 Oto and too many Peppered Cory Cats. The Cats steal the wafers all the time. I crush the wafers in million pieces. I'm sure the Oto finds a few bites here and there.

    Neon Tetras Acting Weird

How long have you had the Tetras for? I've never owned Neon Tetras, but my Columbian Tetras always face downward and just stay in place. This seems to be normal for these type of tetras. Now, the real question... Water Params? Hehe... You knew this was coming... lol

    Non-Aggressive Male Betta?

Not to burst any bubbles but Taylorodw is right. Whoever told you that this tank will cycle itself and you pretty much don't have to worry about it isn't being very helpful. Sure, any tank will cycle on its own. But without frequent water changes and daily testing, as Taylor said the fish...

Pictus Catfish hiding for whole day.

I think most of us have been through this. As stated above, keep doing 50% PWC to keep the levels down. Only use Prime as a Dechlor. Not sure if you have one, but a Python will help alot with those frequent PWC (Partial Water Changes). During the cycling period, don't change the filter...

    20gal upgrade

IMO, if you're planning on staying FW 20G, I'd look for a standard tank with HOB or Can Filtration. BTW, are you looking for a Standard 20G or long 20G?
