My red jewels are starting to breed. I put them in a 30 gal tank by their selves because they were going to kill everything else! Question-if I only keep male jewels will they still fight? Thanks for any imput.

I have a 55 gal with 6 new cichlids (3 red jewel and 3 electric yellow). I noticed one red with tail rot-put in Melafix. Then noticed ICK!! What should I do now? Wait and tomorrow put in Ick meds or continue with Melafix for the 7 days?????? Thanks, I am newbie.
