Restoring a BIG bowfront tank & stand and have a few questions

If ur are worried about spray then take a look at Lowes or Home Depot, they have textured paint that u can roll. I am with u, I suck large at spray painting, so I roll when ever possible. As far as water proofing coat with Kilz first, will also hide the orig finish. Look forward to seeing...

Redirecting water ourlet on HOB filter

How thick is the ABS?? for you to get good seams that will hold you will need 1/8 to 1/4 inck plexi, and maybe thinner on the sides. Plus the Plexi will be clear and look cleaner. Also what do you use to cement the ABS? have to make sure that it is safe, the soulvant used for plexi melts the two...

Redirecting water ourlet on HOB filter

You could just use plexi or lexan found at Lowes. Cut out a bottom and top piece to the shape that you are looking for making sure to round the corners for better fluid dynamics. Then cut sides and cement it to the top and bottom pieces. You would need to fabricate hangers to hold it on the...

2 HOB Filters in 38 Gal Aquarium?

Sorry do agree that filtering does not take place of regular water changes and should have included that in my original post. But I disagree with there is no such thing as "slightly high amonia" When I had the water tested my amonia level was at the bottom of the chart, now any amonia is evil to...

    power filters: which is best?

I have the 2 marineland penguin 200b power filters (up to 50 gal) on my 55 gal tank. If I keep the water level up they are nearly silent. Plus as I stated in another post I am away from home frequently for work, and water changes can be less frequent than is recommended. I never have a...

    heater is heating too well!

I agree with the above statements that the dials are rarely accurate, however you will want to keep an eye on it for a while. I had a Topfin heater in my first tank. A 20 Gal, the heater started a few degrees above the setting then progressivly get worse. When I finally realized there was a...

    Terrarium vs. Aquarium

If the thickness proves that it is truly an aquarium, and it is a good deal grab it. Just strip out all of the silicone and clean the tank throughly. I have a freind that got a 60 gal for a Bearded Dragon, when it died we set it up as an aquarium. However we did strip all the silicone and...

2 HOB Filters in 38 Gal Aquarium?

My 55g is running 2 Marineland 200b filters on a Cichlid tank. I am a firm believer in overfiltering. I am on the road for work a lot, and getting the water changes done regularly is sketchy at best. I recently went almost 10 months between water changes, and when I had the water checked it was...

    55 gallon vs 75 gallon?

I have both, I am getting ready to ditch the 55 as an active tank and use it for isolation, or may use as a sump when I build my 300. Definatly go with the 75. It is far easier to keep up, and the fish I have in it are thriving more so than the ones in the 55.

Hi, I am back, and I realized that I found a great lady, she is pushing me to get started on my project. Sump and overflow start this weekend.:p One question, does an overflow box have to just skim the top, or can it draw from different levels of the tank? I have an idea for a multi chamber...

    MY DIY project Stand/sump/etc.....

Here is a little idea to replace the drawer filters. It is made of 3" or 4" pvc. It would have a screw on top for access and a cap in the bottom. The intake and exit pipes are drilled and cemented into the filter. Then filter media is added. Could also be used for bio filtering just fill with...
