    Physical division...

Thanks for the reply... I'd seen plenty of setups that used various objects (rocks/wood/cork) as above "ground-level" barriers, but I hadn't seen anything about using "underground" dividers. If all goes well, I'll post some before and afters.

    Fuzz Algae? Not Hair Algae!

Otos should help conrol it (the combination of Oto/SAE is even better, IMHO), but you should also try to figure out what's causing it in the first place. Are you running a heavily/moderatly/lightly planted/lighted tank? If planted, what's your routine for ferts/lighting/etc?

    Physical division...

I was thinking about using some slate scraps to help ease the maintenance of some new tank layouts I want to try. Nothing obtrusive, but keeping the dividers just below/even with the substrate... Sort of an easy cut off mark. Has anyone used this as an easy way to maintain a tanks' looks while...

    Fuzz Algae? Not Hair Algae!

If you can keep a small corps of Otos & SAE running around the tank, most algae shouldn't be a problem. I don't know your tank specifics, but I tend to keep one of each per 15 - 20 gals while running ~4WPG and all is well...

    SeaChem Flourish Overdose Blues

I would say it was the "entire weekly recommended dose" of Flourish...I made that mistake once (won't do it again!)... I'm getting in the habit of following more towards Rex's process...the 1st thing I do after the water change is dose my nitrates and potassium, then I do my 'full-spectrum'...

    Weird algae/plant prob questions

Alli... Did the distorted leaf growth come after the probs with the hood? The leaves might have grown a little odd due to the side lighting, or a temporary nutrient imbalance...Ditto for the algae (which, IMHO, just happens to still be growing because we can never clean it completely off...

    Weird algae/plant prob questions

The plant definitely looks like some form of hygro... BTW...Is that direct sunlight on the left side of the tank??? From what I've seen, the distorted leaf growth and algae probs are gonna stem from a nutrient imbalance (calcium or boron)... I'm currently getting much experience in growing...

    Plants from Aquabotanic....any input?

My only online plant order came from AB, and the only thing that surprised me was their choice of a substitution...other than that, I got more plants per bunch than I expected.

    Rio pump?

I can't say anything one way or the other for the Rio pump, but I can say that the reactor does seem to work quite well...I'm running one on my pressurized co2 system, and it's doing wonders for my 120gal...

    Duckweed just ups and disappears!

It could definitely be the Bala Shark...I had one (many years ago) that actually ate some of the plastic plants I had in the tank.

    How many nanas?

A quick question to those who have done this before... I've never split a nana before...what's a good length for each section of the rhizome??? My nana's rhizome has grown to about 5 or 6 inches, and I was thinking about cutting it into smaller pieces to create a nana zone... just in case...

CO2 vs. low kH...a losing battle???

Thanks, all..Right after posting I started thinking about going with the inreased CO2 flow due to the tank size, and just letting the controller take it from there, but I didn't really trust my instinct on it... Since I do have some fish in there, I set the controller at 7.4 and turned...

CO2 vs. low kH...a losing battle???

I seem to have a small problem... I'm running a pressurized CO2 system on a 120 gal tank and my pH refuses to drop below 7.2 (according to my Milwaukee SMS122 controller). As soon as the lights come on, my pH begins to rise at a rate of about 0.1 per hour, until it gets back up to about 7.6...

Brite Lite Kit from AH Supply

...not only can most 11 year olds understand the directions...most people over 11 can understand them too!!! Even if you have no experience with electricity, the instructions are very straight-forward...even I couldn't/didn't mess anything up!!!

    Filtering out phosphates

About a week ago, I had a bad case of green water. I came right after adding a full (recommended) dose of Seachem Flourish (the first full dose since setting up the tank...was a little overkill). To fix the problem, I did a 50% water change, disconnected half of my lights (went from 384 to 192...

    Lava Rock

Anything I get from a garden center I usually soak in a tub with some bleach added to kill anything that might come along with it (I do the same with standard driftwood), then I give it a good, warm rinse, and soak it some more with LOTS of dechlorinator (repeating the last rinse/soak step if...
