A while back some nice reefers here told me all about the benefits of actinic lighting & told me to put actinic bulbs in place of my regular NO lighting but some mysteries still remain... Is there ANY actinic 03 bulbs available in regular Normal Output fluorescent? Or is Actinic 03 just a term...

IMO, bakpak would be ideal on a 29 gal. It would do the job on up to a 40 gal tank but for your 55 gal, I'd go with one of these: Remora, Presicion Marine HOT-1, or Excalibur HOB. These are simply the best HOBs on the market. Check the auctions on eBay for some good deal on these.

I've read about this before but can't remember where I did! I just want to add that water carries sound something like 10 or more times faster than air. So every little sound in or near a tank will be heard much much louder by the fish. Not a good thing IMO.

I've heard people say they mix one third kalk with their top off water. So if you use say 3 gallons of fresh water to top off, dose 2 gallon of water with 1 gallon of kalk instead. HTH

Has anyone seen a 23" NO actinic bulb anywhere? I have looked and looked but they all seem to start at 24". I am looking for a 20 watt but at this point any wattage will do. Any help is much appreciated.

Can't help u with the trace element thing with no name...some are good but most are bad...or at least that's what I've been told. The spotted mandarin needs a lot of copepods if I am not mistaken or it WILL die and they say you have to have the tank established for at least 1 to 2 years bedore...

Steve, A question for you on the IO What is wrong with those levels? If you supplement kalk to bring up the Ca from 350 to about 400 ppm, would that still be a problem with IO? Or do you think the Alk it too high and the addition of Ca might cause a precipitation? BTW, I've read those articles...
