i have a 220 gal rr and the problem is that the down pipes are slurping air/water, i can get it to stop by using a ball valve before it gets to the sump but, then i dont get enough water to the return pumps before they run out. ive tried ball valves on the return pumps but that doesnt help...

i have tested everything and it all seems normal except the kh/alk test i cannot get a reading for that i use 1.0 of the test liquid and nothing on color change? the rest of the test are: ph 8.0 no3 5ppm no2 0ppm nah4 <.5 kh/alk ? any suggestions would help i guess i could have got a bad test...
