    Breeding by accident.....

Ok, so I have had my African cichlid tank up since September of last year. I was shocked to find that my two and a half inch bristlenose plecos had laid eggs. Since then I have had more than five successful sets of fry. I have had to remove the fry once they have hatched, because my africans...

Will Red Zebras and Acei's eat each others babies?

If I can't do Acei's and Zebra's, could I do Pseudotropheus socolofi? Would they still eat each others fry?

Will Red Zebras and Acei's eat each others babies?

Ok, So I have a female Red Zebra that is carrying fry. I have her in a breeding tank now, but am thinking of making a Zebra, Acei and bristlenose pleco tank.......my bristlenose plecos are breeding like crazy! So I was hoping to setup a little nursery tank to harbor the young. If I keep them...

    Will chiclids pick on plecos

I have an assorted group of African Mbuna's in the tank with 2 bristlenose plecos, 1 leopard frog pleco (L-134) and 1 green phantom pleco, I've never had any problems with them. Then again it depends on how big the tank is and what kind of cichlids you are keeping.

    Green tinted water.....algae problem?

Floyd, Correct, Nitrite and Nitrate were not completely at zero. The substrate is not from the old tank. I used gravel in the old tank and went to sand in the new one. The lighting isn't from the old tank. It was lighting that I had laying around that I could install and incorporate in...

    Green tinted water.....algae problem?

Floyd, That's what I think it is, an algae bloom. This tank has been up for 2 and a half weeks. This tank was an upgrade from a 55 and all that water, along with the smaller filter was moved over to the bigger tank. The FX5 is new, but the bio-wheel that is also running is from the 55. I...

    Green tinted water.....algae problem?

Ok, so here is the deal. I have a 110 gallon tank, 48" x 18" x 30", that has been up with fish in it for about 2 and a half weeks. Roughly 4 or 5 days after I had put my fish in it I started to see a light algae film on the glass. Now, almost 2 weeks later, I have a nasty green tint in the...

    Gluing Rocks?

Ok, I apologize in advance if this is a ridiculous question. I am upgrading my fw tank to a 110. I plan on putting africans in the tank and am going with sand on the bottom, and building caves with river rock. I was just going to stack them, should I be gluing them? If so, what kind? I read...

    Which is the better filter?

So I'm going shopping for a new filter for my 110. I'm kinda torn between the Fluval FX5 and the Marineland C-530. Anybody have a recommendation on which is better?

    Ok, fish ID without pics

So I'm in the process of cycling my 110 and currently have about 8 africans, 1 - 2" in a 30 cube until the 110 is ready. My wife was at the store and just thought that all africans could go together.......so she found two "pretty" ones and decided to pick them up. I haven't seen them before...

    Sump or no sump?

So I am planning on the setup of the 110 gallon tank that I just acquired. It is 48" long, 18" wide and 30" tall. I have a Fluval 405, a Magnum 350, and an Emperor 400. Should I use both canisters? I was also debating using a sump......what are the benefits of having a sump? And if I have a...

    Filter and water flow questions

So I currently have a 30 gallon FW cube. I was planning on setting up a 90 gallon SW tank. I built a stand for it and then was able to find a great deal on a 110 gallon that would fit the stand I built. With the tank came a lot of extra "stuff". The stuff included a Fluval 405 canister, a...

    Sand vs gravel!?

Great topic, I was going to ask the same thing as I am starting the process of setting up my 110 gallon. I think I am now convinced that I am going to go with sand, so thanks to all for their input. I was curious as to how much I will need to cover a 48" x 18" area about an inch to an inch and...
