This was attached to some LR I bought off CL; didn't notice it until I had it under some better light. It looked a little stressed the first night but has perked up since. I'm guessing it's a Xenia; please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Is there some reason that people still insist on cycling with livestock? There is plenty of info on this forum and others, on how to do a fishless cycle. Raw shrimp is readily available at the store. :confused: Okay, I feel better now. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Started a fishless cycle in my tank with a raw piece of shrimp and some LR. I don't remember it smelling like this for my last tank. lol Does anyone try to mask the odor? Or do you just live with it knowing it'll only be a few days?

I can't find my Firefish Goby. I saw him Tuesday but that was the last time. I tried moving the LR and checked the HOB filter. I have an open top tank but cover it with egg crate overnights. Is it possible that it died and any remains were eaten by the snails? Bones too?

Would it be possible to keep a FO tank that has never cycled. Here's the thought: I add fish and water at the same time. (RO/DI, treated water of course.) I check the ammonia level and do a PWC as soon as I detect any. Is that a possible scenario? It would mean zero nitrites and nitrates also...

I just noticed tonight that one of my peppermint shrimp has a bulge in its side. I'm guessing it's an isopod and I've read that it's usually harmless. Has anyone ever tried removing one from their shrimp or fish? Better to just leave it is what I'm guessing. The "operation" may be too stressful.

Has anyone here put a clam, oyster, conch, snail or whatever into their tank that was purchased from a grocery/seafood store? The local market here sells live stuff like that and it made me curious. (I know, I have too much time on my hands today.) :)
