Good advice! I will check into some cichlid salt, if not then won't use any!

Just wanted to know if and how much aquarium salt would be ok to add to an African Cichlid aquarium? Its a 40 gal tank by the way!

I just rehomed the convict to a friends. We came to the colclusion that it was very stressed and a little beat up. It sucks but I think it will be better off now. They all started out great together. The other 3 are still the same and doing great!

My Oscar seems to change shades based on its mood I guess? Is that right? From shades of grayish to almost black. When black its got stripes of the lighter shade going vertical. Also can the sex be told by these pics?

I was doing the fishless cycle for dummies and at week 4 the ammonia levels were still at 3-4 ppm the nitrites hit a wall at 1 ppm. so at week 5 I did a huge water change to get rid of the ammonia then added fish. I have been monitoring very close and you know the rest!

Thats good advice. So if I do a 50% pwc daily, will the tank start to sustain itself?

I sprayed the back of the glass first with a very light coat of white stone finish spray paint then second it with a flat black spray. I think it turned out pretty good!

Well, first after I do a pwc the fish seem revived like fresh oxygen has been given with the aqueon water vac. Also not sure if this has to do with oxygen levels but I did a pwc on Fri and the ammonia levels were up again today so I did another pwc.

How could I tell if there is enough oxygen getting through?

I have a 40 gal freshwater tank and a marineland emperor 400 power filter running it. I wanted to know if my tank is getting enough oxygen through it and if not whats the best way to do so? Would a power head do the trick?

I know exactly what you are talking about. The reef capable are more than double the lumens than the double bright system, so my point is the reef capable system will be bright enough for a reef tank depending the size of the light because marineland makes different sizes. Check it out...

This is the double bright LEDs. The reef capable LEDs are more than double the lumens. I think its plenty bright. Your talking around 3 feet deep water! That will be enough.

I will for sure pay close attention to all the details that are involved in keeping these fish happy.

Yea, Ill probably stick with cichlids. I would like to get a bottom feeder for the algae if the other guys wouldnt mess with it too much. What do you think?

Definitely bright enough for a fish only tank which I am doing. I got the 36" - 48" light. I took the end caps off and cut 2 1/2 inches off each end and the put the end caps back on so it would mount in my canopy. It came out great, you cant even tell except now half the "M" on the Marineland...

I was wondering if your supposed to keep a lid or some sort to cover the aquarium water if the legs of their lighting system are mounted on the aquarium edge. Or will the filter, filter out the dust? What are people doing?
