    Doug's 250, now 300, in wall build

I have a 120g planted FW built into my wall. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing a reef tank. Live and learn, next house I'll do bigger and better! That being said, built in is definitely the way to go if you can make it work during a reno! I always get compliments in the set-up. Learn from...

Are my Vals finally shooting runners?

I have been waiting 6mos+ waiting for my Vals to start spreading and shoot out some runners. Is this finally happening or did some leaves just somehow get caught under the gravel?

    Looking after Anubis

    1. From the looks of your pic it doesn't need any pruning. If there are leaves turning brown or if it is getting too big then prune, otherwise let it grow. 2. If the roots are attached to the rock then you can remove whatever you are Currently securing the plant with. Good luck!

    Updated planted tank pics!

Looks great! I have the same crypt as you in the right corner of your tank. I was told by my LFS that it's really slow growing but it's huge now, at least 18" high. Good luck with your plants!

    Filter help

I have a Rena XP3 filter working on my tank. Today I noticed that I had little to no water flow. I just tore my filter apart and started it back up at which point everything started running fine once again. What might be the cause of this problem? I did a 40% PWC last week during which time...

How do i keep my pleco from eating my plants

What type of pleco is it? And you could always try giving it some cucumber.

    120g update

Added some rock and anubias in an attempt to fill in some empty space behind my DW. This area is largely shaded due to the size of the DW. Fingers crossed the anubias is able to stay green!

    Potted plants or not

To my understanding normal gravel will work for a majority of common plants. I have Vals, crypts, swords, Hygro and dwarf sag all thriving in my normal gravel. Your lighting being adequate is much more of a concern than the type of gravel.

    Anubias in shade

I don't have light in this area, that's the problem. My DW goes the full height of my tank on an angle front to back. The area behind the driftwood gets almost zero light, but I would like to have something back there to fill in the space. I'm hoping that if I try some 3-4in high anubias that...

    Anubias in shade

Thanks B, I have a couple crypts in my tank already but they are not what I'm looking for in this area of my tank. I think I will give the anubias a try. I'll post pics on my 120g thread when I pick them up.

    Anubias in shade

I have a large DW centerpiece for my 120g. I have had trouble getting anything to grow behind it because it is on an angle and blocks almost all light from reaching the plants. Would anubias or anything work in this situation? I really don't care if it even grows just as long as it stays...

What do i do with all this hc cuba!

A local guy attached all his moss to DW by using one of those shower body loofa things all unraveled. You could try something like that under your gravel?

    Female Swordtail

Just checked again, she's likely not doin that good. She swims up to the surface then just sinks back down to the gravel and repeats. I've had her less than a week, bought her and the male together. He seems to be fine, as do the rest of the fish.

    Female Swordtail

Came home today to find my female swordtail stuck in one of my crypts fighting to get out. When she did get out she swam in corkscrew for about two minutes before resting on the gravel. When resting on the gravel my male swordtail began nipping at her body/fins for less than a minute. She is...

    Background Problem!!!!

I'd just use aquarium specific silicone to adhere the pieces directly to the tank. Don't worry about sticking the two pieces back together, if you make a clean enough cut the seams will be invisible anyways. If you tried sticking them together you might get some silicone squeezing out at the...

    Background Problem!!!!

That's the route I'd take. I'd use a drywall saw to make the cuts. It's small enough that you can work it through tight corners.

    New tank missing something

It looks like you have the tank set up as a room divider, but if it's not definitely go for a basic blue or black background. Otherwise try tossing a plant in and see how it goes? Maybe a Java Fern tied onto the driftwood? That way you don't have to worry about digging. Looks great though even...

    Algae on plants and glass

I have a couple pest snails but my loaches seem to keep them in check. How big are the nerite snails? And will they breed with my pest snails?

    Adding plants and grass

Having owned both real and fake plants, I find it just as easy to vacuum with real plants. No problems at all.

    Algae on plants and glass

I'm having a hard time getting rid of some algae on my dwarf sag and the tank glass. I have the tank lit for 8 hours a day (12pm - 4pm). I have 2 ottos, 2 BNP, ghost shrimp and two silver mollies that i've been told eat algae as well. Any advice on what to do to help get rid of this stuff?
