    Eggs or something else?

Thank you for the condolences. We already perform weekly 50% water changes and have performed bi - weekly changes since the condition presented itself. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Eggs or something else?

Unfortunately, this fish passed away this weekend. I'm currently feeding the remaining fish anti.-bacterial food as a precaution. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Eggs or something else?

Just came home this evening and found something hanging from the anus of one of my angelfish. I have never personally witnessed an angel laying eggs nor am I aware of any infection/disease that presents itself in this manner. I'm hoping someone can tell me if I should be concerned or am I just...

    protruding anus

When dealing with an undiagnosed outbreak, I would probably use the general cure. I'd be reticent to introduce new fish until this situation is under control. I would also suggest investing in a quarantine tank for future additions. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    protruding anus

I just found this on another site: If*fish*won't feed a, medicated metronidazole bath, the medication comes in liquid form. I was wrong about using epsom salt. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    protruding anus

There are medicated foods that are good for dealing with internal parasites. Since your rainbow isn't eating that might not work for you. I seem to recall reading that an epsom salt bath in a quarantine tank might help. I will try and see if I can find the article for you. Sent from my...

    Richmond, VA Fish Stores

Realize this thread is a little old, but I wanted to add that Azalea Aquariums has always provided me with healthy fish. I've purchased fish from Petsmart on Laburnum and Skoolz of Fish. Both stores have sold me fish that had ich. That being said, I would still go back to Skoolz (I am...

Cleaning used AC110 & cycling a new tank

+1 to BBradbury concerning the filter media. Definitely the fastest way to cycle a new tank. I've always cleaned my tanks with bleach (none of the scented brands). I use hot water (just hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch), add bleach and let sit until the water reaches room...

    Good Bottom Feeders for 10g?

I agree with the replies that suggest cories. They're great bottom feeders. I wouldn't consider otos to be bottom feeders, but they are great at controlling algae. You say you have an African Dwarf Frog. Don't they need to be able to spend time out of the water? Sent from my SPH-L720 using...

    Substrate heater

Thanks to the OP for asking the question and thanks to those that replied. I am preparing to start my first "serious" planted tank and all info is appreciated. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

I am at a loss with my readings! Not good.

Just saw this post. How old is your test kit? You should have seen some changes after a 50% water change.

I am at a loss with my readings! Not good.

At this point I would focus on just water changes. It shouldn't be necessary to repeatedly clean your ornaments. I would treat this situation as a cycle with fish. Just keep testing your water and perform the necessary water changes.

I am at a loss with my readings! Not good.

Your spike in parameters is a little bit of a mystery. I am assuming that when you say pretreated water that you mean water that has already been dechlorinated. Have you checked your source waters parameters. My local water treatment plant switched from chlorine to chloramine. My water reads...

I am at a loss with my readings! Not good.

Some of the information that could help you have already given. The biggest missing piece of the puzzle was just added when you stated that the tank has been running since February. What is your water change procedure.? Are you adding a dechlorinator? You mentioned that you slowly added the...

Lost an Oto, is the tank too immature?

Otos are notoriously fragile when changing tanks. Drip acclimation is helpful, but sometimes that isn't enough. It really sounds like you are just experiencing the common lost associated with otocinchlis (especially given your water parameters and how quickly they are dying). Sent from my...

I am at a loss with my readings! Not good.

Hello novice. I'm afraid that I would have to disagree with bbradbury. Water chemistry is essential for the health of your fish. Without knowing your complete story, it sounds as though your tank has not fully cycled. Ultimately, ammonia and nitrItes should read zero and you should be...

    Ammonia problem!!!

I realize this thread is very old, but I wanted to make an update on the situation. The cause of the increased ammonia readings is the result of my local water source switching to chloramine from chlorine. I've since started to add more Prime and am in the process of saving up for a RO/DI...

    Yellowish water during fishless cycle

Surfactants are definitely a big no no. I used the Ace hardware industrial strength professional version for my last fishless cycle. It's been a couple of years since I did my last cycle but I seem to recall that once I started to see nitrItes I only dosed with ammonia to ensure that the first...
