I have a 55 gallon FOWLR with 50 to 60 lbs of live rock and a lady at local fish store told me I shouldn't be using my canister filter at all but everyone else I have talked to says it's fine idk who I should listen too

When i got the tank it's been setup for a year already and almost all of the rock has Coraline algae on it

But it is all over all my live rock not just this one that's just the most detailed pic I could get

Well I think it's just a slimy substance that is catching sand substrate cuz I try to blow it off with my power head and it just stays there and I have a fine sand substrate

I'm sure he does no his stuff but I know it's not a sponge I'm 100% percent positive

Cuz it's a rock I put in there my self andthe white stuff is pretty much on every inch of live rock I have in my tank

No cuz you said it's a spounge and I know it's not and I don't think it's algae cuz it's white

I have white stuff all over my live rock idk what it is does anyone have any ideas

Is it bad and what will get rid of it

That's cuz it's a like rock that might have a similar shape to a sponge but Its covered with stuff I don't have the kind of lighting for a sponge

i have this slimy thread looking stuff on rocks looks like string kinda like spider webs in between crevices on rocks
