    concrete comes right off

So, I tried doing that thing where you use Great Stuff expanding foam for the background on a tank, and then you "paint" it with cement. After it dries, though, it comes right off when I rub it with my finger. This is even after a few coats. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is this common...

    egg crate/great stuff background

I've seen a lot of people online use egg crate to hold great stuff, or just use great stuff as a background for their tank. Many have painted it with some sort of crafts cement, but some have stuck on plants and such. I'm wondering how people do that because I'd like to do it. People always just...

    Rock weight

So, I just weighed the rock and it's 44 pounds. Picking it up again, feeling its weight, realizing its size, the depth and height of the tank and the fact that it's already full of water, has really made me decide against putting it in. If I did intend to put it in, and if it wasn't already full...

    Rock weight

That might be perfect, because I actually just bought some for the backdrop on a 29 gallon (I saw a thread in this forum about someone using it as a way to hold Great Stuff up in place - I'm going to give it a try), and I'm going to have more than I'll need. I'll weigh the rock because I...

    Rock weight

Hey guys, I have a really big rock that I want to put into my 55 gallon tank, but it's really heavy. I was wondering if you guys recommended a weight limit on rocks. This one is really nice, but I don't want to break anything just to get it in there.

    Anyone ever use hydroballs?

So, I just got a 29 gallon tank (to upgrade our two frogs from their 10 gallon) and I was told these Zoo Med Hydroballs work very well is a way to make ponds and mold the landscape. After rinsing and soaking them, they're just in their ball shape. I'm not sure exactly how to use them, or what...

    ammonia as tank cleaner?!

I used vinegar/water mix and a razor blade in my tank and it worked extremely well.

    Nitrites won't go to Nitrates

Well the chart that came with the water test doesn't seem to have a huge difference between 2ppm and 5ppm (unless I'm partially color blind) and the water in the tube looks like it's pretty close to both of them (purple), so I was figuring it's somewhere between 2 and 5.

    Nitrites won't go to Nitrates

I've been cycling a tank for several weeks and the ammonia is doing very well, but the nitrites keep getting higher and there are still no nitrates. I don't have anything from a previous tank (this is my first tank of three that I intend to set up), and I'm not sure what else I might be able to...

Liking the new "My Tanks" look

It seems to be working now, and it's definitely a really cool feature. I finally get to see everyone's tanks. :P Very nice.

    10 gallon low-light with dirt

It is a very nice tank and I am a bit jealous. It looks really good. Nice work.

    Lights for a planted tank

So, I don't really have a real fish shop where I live so I was looking in the hardware section of another store for lights. I found the fluorescent lights but some of them didn't have all the information I was looking for. Some of them had the kelvin but some did not. Of those that did, and of...

    10 gallon low-light with dirt

Okay, awesome. My tank is only 48x12 so one of those bags should be perfect for me. Thanks, guys. I'm still looking forward to how this turns out.

    10 gallon low-light with dirt

What are the length and width of your tank? How deep did the dirt get as a thick mud? Did you use the whole bag, and how big was the bag? The update is appreciated. :)

    Planning my paludarium

I put together my slate cave and it's holding together very nicely. What do you think?

Tank Wars Whos got the coolest tank

I'd post pictures of mine, but it doesn't even have water yet. :(

    10 gallon low-light with dirt

I've been planning on using a layer of dirt under small gravel or something for the tank I've been planning and starting to set up. I'm very interested to see your process because I'll be following behind you. Give us details in how every step works out, so I can learn from you. ;)

    Wy Renegade's 20L Bog Tank

This is still my favorite tank in the forum. It seems to look better every time you post about it.

    digging a pond

I've done a lot of reading and apparently pine needles will not have an effect on the pond, other than being annoying. I'm living in an area that has a committee that must approve of projects like this so they can ensure property values stay up, so a pond we may or may not be able to dig. We'll...

    My 37g tank

I like how diverse the plants look and how everything has a nice, clean look. I also always enjoy seeing schooling fish. It's a very nice tank, in my opinion.

    Planning my paludarium

I didn't even think to look for sand at Home Depot. I looked for the silicone, but they didn't have any. I looked for PVC but I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted yet so I waited on that. They had a ton of slate, but apparently there are several boxes of it in a shed in the back yard, so I didn't...

    My 37g tank

It looks kind of cool just looking at the thumbnails, but I can't see the pictures in full size. When I click on them it says they're unavailable.

    Cleaning the tank

I was wondering if that was the case because when I spray those spots, the cloudiness goes away while it's wet - but verification is always nice. Now I won't worry so much about those parts. Thank you, mfd.
