Sorry to revive an old, dead thread, but I had bought 2 of these filters about 2 weeks ago. One for my 55 gallon, and one for my dad's pond. So far absolutely no problems. The short hoses are a little annoying, but the filters work great so far, with a strong flow.

I have removed all of the trim off my 10g almost a year ago. i was pretty rough when doing so, and even went as far as to trim back the silicone so it would look nicer. It has yet to leak, knock on wood... Simply slide a razor under trim, cut as much silicone as possible. then score the corners...
