I have made a mess trying to paint back Using acrylic paint & roller

If it's latex based you should be able to just peel the paint off, I just did that with my tank with no tools other than my finger nail to get it started. I use a 4" foam roller and put the first coat on light. Wait until it's dry to the touch, just use a fan (thats what I used) inbetween coats...

    Painting tank background

I just painted the back of my 55. I couldn't spray paint cause the tank is already setup and is indoors (obviously). I went to walmart and got Krylon Acrylic Latex "Gloss Black" and applied it with a foam roller. Came out perfect. The paint I used previously was rolled on as well, but it wasnt a...

    Bare bottom or sand?

My friend has lighter colored sand in his tank and I would never use it. I would have to be vacuuming constantly, fish poop is really visable. I use PFS because it hides the waste really well and my Mbuna's love it.

    Ziggy's Nano Build (again)

What did you use to get your background so black? Ive used a black background from Petco as well as painted mine and they always seem to look grey when looking at the tank from the front. Any suggestions?

    African conversion

Limestone and coral won't really raise the pH much, it acts more as a buffer which holds it stable rather than raise it. If you slowly acclimate them to your tank they should be just fine. I have a high pH from my tap water, around 8, and use crushed coral in my canister and used 100% limestone...

    New nano planted tank

Thanks! Just got my Art Deco nano filter in the mail, starting to seed that. I think I'm going to follow the advice I found on another thread and super glue the java moss to the rock. It's currently secured with fish line and it's starting to come loose.

Wanting to start a new malawi tank.

Well if you want small size from Malawi you're probably talking about mbuna's. There are many different species and each one has their quirks so what I would do is pick a species that you really like and build the rest of the tank around them. 55 gallon is usually the smallest for mbuna's. They...

    New nano planted tank

I decided I wanted to get a 2nd tank and wanted to keep it simple so I decided to try my hand at a planted nano tank. I have had my eye on dwarf puffers ever since I saw one so I figured I would start up a 5 gallon planted tank and get one. I added java moss, java fern and riccia along with a...

    Fishless Cycling and filtration question

How into DIY stuff are you? I just got an awesome canister which would be enough for your tank called an Odyssea CFS500, it's super cheap compared to name brand stuff but you should read this post and do the modifications (I did all of them and mine works awesome) Odyssea CFS 500 Can-filter...

    My new fish! Video

dollabill you can just go to a lake or river and get some rocks, round river rocks look awesome in cichlid tanks. Just make sure to boil them or clean them with a bleach/water solution to get the bad stuff off them.

I actually got them from a family in Wisconsin, they had blasted through a bunch of limestone to make their driveway. I've been thinking of making a DIY 3D background but I really like the limestone, I'm really torn!

    My new fish! Video

There are 30 cichlid's in this tank at the moment and I know I will end up removing some rejected fish but my question is how many fish is just too much? I have a large canister filter on the way and I plan on running that (labled 500gph actual is about 300gph) and a smaller penguin biowheel...
