    Kent marine Tech-CB has copper?

I've heard that the copper isn't removed from the tank by any biological processes, and that no animals use it. Therefore, it collects, and if added for a long time period, can build up and actually crash the whole system. Is there any truth to this, or am I just being overly careful?

    Kent marine Tech-CB has copper?

I noticed Kent Marine's Tech CB solution has copper in it. First of all, why the heck would they do this? Second of all, has anybody used this, or does anyone currently use it, and if so what has been your experience? Thanks for the help. -Steve

So many kind of calcium, how to decide?

thanks for the suggestions. Is it possible to use Kent's Turbo Calcium by itself? or is the buffer necessary? There are all these calcium products that have descriptions containing phrases such as:"Strontium addition via use of Kent Marine Strontium & Molybdenum Supplement is absolutely...

So many kind of calcium, how to decide?

First of all, what kind of calcium do you guys reccomend for dosing a 55 gal reef tank with?(ie, powder form, 2 part additive, etc..) Second, what brand does everybody reccomend? Also, what's the deal with strontium. Is it at all necessary, and do I need to take it into account when dosing my...

    2 250w MH's on 55 gal reef?

So it sounds like I'm either going to have to ghetto rig my hood to be farther from the water, or just get rid of it and build a hanging unit. The third option would be to get a chiller. I guess I'll just have to see what I can do. Thanks.

    2 250w MH's on 55 gal reef?

First of all, I'm not sure how far they are going to be from the water. Right now I have a hood and I was thinking with proper airflow, I MIGHT be able to mount inside the hood. Otherwise I might have to build some sort of hanging unit, or a stand for the lights. And where'd you get a...

    2 250w MH's on 55 gal reef?

yeah, I've got 4 24" PC's (two blue, two white), and I was considering putting the two blue ones on and have them light up an hour before and turn off an hour after the MH's. So would you say that amount of light will be good (as in, not so much that it will boil my tank or something  )?

    2 250w MH's on 55 gal reef?

Hi. I'm kinda new to posting in this forum but I have been lurking for almost a year now (finally got my tank a couple months ago). You guys know so much and always give such great advice (a lot of it has helped me out), and so I was wondering if you could give me your opinions on a little...

    I want clean sand

Wait wait wait, what is the problem with having sponges in a fluval (in a reef tank). My nitrates are a little high (and i have had trouble controlling them), and i have sponges in my fluval. Could this be the reason?

    Basement Sump Design

Wow, that sounds like quite a setup. All that extra water volume/filtration will be great. (not to mention that it makes it less messy around your tank when you do water changes/etc.)

    Calcium Questions

lol, Jackdp obviously knows a bit about chemistry (taken a few college-level classes). I wouldn't worry kenor. You don't need to know every little detail. You can have a pretty cool tank with basic knowledge. Plus, any questions you have, we're always here to answer (and usually pretty good...

    peppermint shrimp

I had a few hitchhiker clams, and accidentially killed one on a move (didn't realize the things were so fragile). I do think they're kinda cool looking though, and add to the natrual look of the tank.

    Blue Starfish

My friend had a blue linkia that survived about a month and then died after she moved her rockwork around (this was just after cycling, more or less). Anyways, they always seem to wrap around powerheads, or hide in wierd places. They're pretty cool, but I might go for another, heartier star...

Why do my snails keep dying? (while my corals/fish do fine)

my nitrates are fine(and i mean hey , my corals and anemoes are doing fine so it would suprise me that the snails are more sensitive), and yeah perhaps thats's what killed the last one. Those damned things. I don't get it, how have they survived evolutionary if they can't even right...

    Torch not really eating.

I have two torch, one green and one yellow. They are both doing great, and I never feed them. I add phytoplankton, but that's it. They deflate a ton at night, but expand fully during the day. I wouldn't worry.

    Not RO...

The carbon won't get rid of all of the metals and chemicals that are found in drinking water. Like peely said, it's just carbon, so it would be like pouring your tap water through activated carbon into a bucket, adding salt and putting it in the tank. If you've got corals, i wouldn't reccomend...

    clownfish maturity?

Clownfishes have an interesting life cycle. They all begin unisex. In nature, the babies all go find homes in new anemones with different "parents" (for genetic diversity). What happens is when the Female (the big one) dies, the Male actually mutates into a female, grows larger, and the next...

Why do my snails keep dying? (while my corals/fish do fine)

It's really odd. My turbo snails keep dying, but everything else in my tank is floroushing. I have a bunch of soft corals, two maroon clowns, a blue tang, watchman goby, and a couple blennys. Not to mention about 20 hermits. Tank conditions good, water temp around 80-82, salt 1.024. It's...

    mini dusters

i have about 4 feather dusters in my system (55 gal community tank). Now i am noticing a bunch of tiny little dusters sprouting up on several of the rocks. Are these different than the big ones or have they reproduced? (I'm talking really really small) Thanks for any info.
