    90 Gallon Mixed Reef Build

Sorry for the long time between updates, but so far I have aquascaped the rocks, put 90 lbs of sand in the display tank and 30 lbs in the refugium below. I also made RODI water and mixed salt (found out I need a lot more salt) and put that into my tank. Put all the plumbing together and fixed a...

Can you add salt directly to the aquarium?

I already have an aquarium set up with filtration, sand and rocks and water (its been running for 4 days, I know it isnt cycling yet). I didn't put enough salt while mixing the water so can I just add the rest of the salt directly to the display tank and wait for it to dissolve that way? :thanks:

    90 Gallon Mixed Reef Build

Hey everyone! I joined AA about a year ago, around the time when I got my aquarium. I got my tank somewhere in March of 2011 from some guy off of craigslist. Long story short there were a lot of problems and mistakes I made even before I put water in it. Finally after more than a year I am...

    Is ABS plastic safe?

I really appreciate everyone's feedback..it was kinda what I was needing to here after so much "depression" of not starting my tank up for a year. Now I can start fantasizing and not worrying. Going to try to get it up and running this week and have it cycled soon! Thank you.

    Scott's 55 gallon reef build

Why didn't you like the sea cucumber? Did it always get stuck in the overflow?

    Is ABS plastic safe?

Hey I have an aquarium that I got from craigslist a while ago. Said it was 90 gallons turns outs its 70, but moving on. It came with plumbing. The tank has two holes (one is the main drain and the other is the emergency) and there is a 2 inch elbow and bulkhead attached.. i think (this would be...

    Deep Sand Bed?

If anyone has any suggestions...I definitely will take them in! Is it better to have a deep sand bed or could it be the death of a tank started by a rookie? Thanks :P

Tim's 29gal Biocube Reef / Angler Fish tank build

I'll be watching! Looks like a fun build and I was eyeing anglers, but never planned on getting one.

    Deep Sand Bed?

So saying that...would a deep (not live sand) bed be possible or....?

    Deep Sand Bed?

Oh i was talking about the refugium for the time being. Switching gears now! I'm not putting macro-algae in the display...probably a potential tang or herbivore would eat it...anyway. I'm not using LR shocker! I have already bought 100 lbs of dry pukani rock. I will probably only use 50-70 lbs...

    Deep Sand Bed?

I would stock it with chaetomorpha-macro algae. Lots of worms and snails that sift through the sand...like bristle worms and such. Amphipods and Copepods would be directly added. What do you think?

    Picking Coral

Haha I will definitely get those. I should have a zoa garden. Thank you for everyone's input! I really want success instead of death obviously! I'll probably get a book on certain types of advanced corals...because I'm nerdy like that :P

    Deep Sand Bed?

Does anyone have any input? I'm also wondering which would be a better choice...deep sand bed in the refugium or just rock. I'm leaning towards sand, but I will definitely consider any suggestions. Thanks :)

    Fluval Edge nano reef

Sorry to get off topic with your build, but MABJ, I've read that blue hermits are opportunistic eaters, I know damsels are really aggressive (although idk if it would matter b/c that would be your only fish. And I know that sexy shrimp are really small and unusual, but beautiful. If you haven's...

Making your own food is awesome!!!!!

What proportions do you use for how many fish? Seems like an idea I would like to try :P

    Fluval Edge nano reef

Sounds great, can't wait to see what happens. I know that mushrooms (low light corals) can be beautiful like the blue, purple, and neon greens. Personally, I don't like brownish or yellowish coral because it blends in with the rock. Corals that pop and catch your eye are well worth the money...

    Deep Sand Bed?

Hey, so like I've said before, I will be starting up my first saltwater aquarium. It will be a mixed reef tank and I want to try to make mistakes to a minimum . There has been a lot of debate on deep sand beds or shallow sand beds so I am confused on what to believe since I am new and...

    Picking Coral

Thanks I won't get a sea fan until I have an established aquarium and know exactly how to care for them. Thank you for your feedback.
