    Cloudy water from ferts?

I've been dosing ferts with PPS pro for a week now (using the kit from green leaf aquariums) and my water had turned more and more cloudy this week. Am I doing something wrong? I'm dosing the recommended amount as specified on the green leaf website which is a ml per 10 gallons.

    Light Question

Yeah, I know, they're pretty old school. They came with the tank and I don't really have the money to replace the whole lighting setup right now. I'll get some more suitable bulbs for the smaller T5 I have to help out. Ok, good to know I need to get a bit more light in there, thanks.

    220 gallon riparium planted...help

That is stunning! I've always wanted to do a riparium but have never quite gotten it together. Nice work!

    Light Question

Ok I got two 48" 40 watt T12 bulbs at 5000k. This is 80 watts over a 70g tank. I assume that counts as low light? Like I said before, I have a 3' T5 that could help out to get to medium light. How much more light could I take without needing CO2?

    Lighting timers

So I work all the time and have been leaving my lights on too long. Does anyone have a light timer they recommend? Preferably pretty cheap? It would be such a big help, thanks.

    Light Question

So it's a T12. Would 2 48" T12 6500 NO bulbs huge me enough light to have medium light plants grow in a 70g? I also have a 3' T5 set that could help out of needed. I've heard a lot of things fur and against the WPG rule so I'm unsure of what is appropriate. Again I don't want so much light that...

    Light Question

How do I tell NO vs HO? In something like a T5? Also any suggestions to what I should be getting to replace it? Or even pointing me to a good article?

    5g planted tank!

The smaller the tank the more difficult to maintain and in a 5g, I wouldn't recommend more than just some shrimp. Definitely cycle it as normal but because of how little water there is, you need to pay very close attention to the ammonia, nitrate and nitrite measurements, they build up quick! As...

    Light Question

Hi I have a 70g planted community tank and it's time to upgrade my lighting. Right now I just have the lights that came with it. There's a 10k Coralife and an actinic bulbs in there so I know I need some ones that are more appropriate for plants. I don't know what kind of bulbs they are...

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm going to do the research and figure out which would be better for me. I think this sounds like it should take care of a lot of the problems I'm experiencing. You guys are awesome, thanks! I'll post again when I've tried it out and gotten any results.

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Ok, interesting. What are the differences between the two? Are they different ferts or just a different want of measuring them? Why did you go with EI, what seemed easier about it?

    water lily issue

I don't know if this is true but I asked something similar a while ago and was told that they have to be planted the correct way up, otherwise they won't sprout. I was told to keep them wrapped in a moist paper towel in a warm place until they sprouted and then plant them with the sprout end up...

    Duckweed

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's light requirements are pretty low. It does tend to spread quickly over the surface of the water, which will cut off light to any plants below and it's hard to get rid of once it's in a tank. It can be very pretty though, in my opinion but...

    CT based AA members?

Ugh, the Animal Kingdom USA in Carmel NY is no longer carrying *any* kind of fish. They upped their aquarium product stock though, so whatever. Really disappointing as they had a great selection and a lot of tanks. I don't know any other good places in my neck of Fairfield or Westchester counties.

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Ok, as soon as I have the extra funds I'm going to invest in the ferts and the dosing bottles. Luckily my girlfriend already has the scale I need. I think you or someone mentioned that I'll need to up my liquid CO2 dosage to compensate for the algae that could grow as a result of the ferts. How...

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Thank you for all the info. It seems like rather a good amount of investment to get all of the nutrients, the bottles and the scale. Are the results worth it? I've always been nervous of the learning curve of dry ferts because I know very little of chemistry and I would have to rely entirely on...

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Wow, rivercats, thanks for all that info, that's awesome. I'll take a picture of the lights when I get home later. I do 50% WCs weekly as well and that's worked well for me. I've heard a lot about dry ferts but never made the jump. Can you recommend a good brand/mix that you've had success...

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

Yes I had a BBA outbreak a little while ago. I'm always nervous about water changes for fish health vs getting rid of algae. I did cut down in the ferts and the excel is helping too, so it's on its way down but still doesn't look great.

Hey I've just moved to Danbury away from Waterbury Aquarium sadly, so I was wondering if anyone knew any good stores in the area? Whether a little ways into Westchester or just somewhere in the Danbury area? Thanks!

    Vivarium advice

There are two ways to do this, either a paludarium where you have part of the tank actually blocked off to create a section where you can plant terrestrial plants or a riparium, where the tank is partially filled with water and the plants grow from planters that are attached to the back wall of...

    Fluval Edge Aquascaping Help

What does low iron mean? Does that affect the clarity? I've seen them on a distributor's website before, they're gorgeous. With the Edge, yeah, it's kind of a pain, but it wouldn't look the same without that opening, so I don't mind trying to adapt things to it. I don't know how some people...

    Fluval Edge Aquascaping Help

OK, so I trimmed this weekend and had a devil of a time getting the trimmings out of the tank. With the Edge only having a small opening, even my smallest net (about 3"x2") wasn't able to get most of them out. Now there's lots of bits of grass floating against the top of the tank. I might just...
