    Hey dudes & dudettes, Would you say these are SAEs or flying foxes? They had been sold to me as foxes and just wanted to double check. They are rad little peaceful dudes cruising around the tank together etc. (Ps I am aware of the crazy amount of algae)

    Have a look at pool filter sand or playground sand they will be way cheaper. I have playground sand in both my tanks and love it.

    Haha, more then that, also some sand and anubias, also have rams, an angel, neons, bristlenose, kuhlies and a few different synos oh and a rainbow, so I guess in the past few years it has slowly moved away from the south American tank it started as. Girlfriend is more worried about power more...

    I have seen a few places around brisbane like clayfield aquarium and a place in west end (not sure of the name). They might ship up to nth qld but not sure.

    That one I can't answer myself sorry, from my understanding it has iron in it, so you could possibly have an issue there, but I am sure some one on here can share their experiences using blasting sand with us.

    None at all, just give it a good rinse in a pillow case before you put it in and you will be fine, alot of people on here seem to use it

    I swapped to sand and had no issues at all, apart from cloudy water due to not washing the sand well enough in one tank.

    Thanks guys, I think the change to sand is worth it, I will also be putting up more pics of tank 2 as I set it up more, sold my Oscar yesterday due to not being able to have plants(or a nice looking tank).

    How much money do you have into our hobby so far?

    Tanks, stands, filters & lights have set me back around $1600 Australian. Then food, fish and plants I wouldn't be able to guess how much I have spent and until recently I always got spring water to put in my tanks
