Anyone have a Siamese Algae Eater???

Give them a week or 2. When I first got mine, they didn't seem to eat much of anything. Now, they eat anything and everything (except algae :?) I used to give them Algae Pellets at first also, but the Tiger Barbs seemed a lot more interested in those than the SAEs did.

    Panda Cory Mortality

My substrate I don't think is the problem. It's really fine gravel, about the size of very large grains of salt that you might find on pretzels. It's smooth edge too. I do gravel vacs twice a week along with the water changes, so the only other thing left is overstocking, I guess. We'll see...

    Panda Cory Mortality

Are they sensitive to water changes? I have 3 right now in my 5G Platy fry tank, which gets daily water changes, with the water just dumped in. They seem to be doing ok after 4 months. I originally started out with 3 in my main tank, and they all lost their barbels, I'm guessing because of...

    Jumping Molly?!?

Seems that any fish can jump once in awhile. I've had 2 Siamese Algae Eaters jump twice, and one didn't make it, as I was at work when that one jumped. The other jumped while I was watching the tank. I had a Tiger Barb jump once when I was doing a water change. I didn't notice it until about...

    Melafix

That sounds like a good idea. I'll look for it next time I'm at the LFS.

    Melafix

Does anyone else think Melafix is hard to pour? Every time I try to pour it into the little measuring cup I use, it runs down the side of the bottle (both 4 and 8 oz sizes). I always have to do cleanup of the general area after using Melafix. How do you guys pour it? :)

    Which Cories do I have?

The Spotted Cory has a different spot pattern than the Peppered Cory.

    Which Cories do I have?

Mystery solved. I went back to the LFS where I got them, and they didn't have the clear finned variety anymore, but what they did have was the Peppered Cory, Corydoras Paleatus. So, I brought 2 more home to compare to what I have, and lo and behold, on my original 2 Cories, the tail and fin...

    Which Cories do I have?

Oops, I hit "report" instead of "reply" by mistake. Hopefully bad things won't happen. Sorry! :? Anyway, I'll try to take some better pictures later.

    Which Cories do I have?

It's not the Peppered Cory, because the Peppered Cory has coloration on the fins and tail, as opposed to the clear fins and tails in my picture. I checked PlanetCatfish already, and the closest thing I found was: Corydoras ehrhardti...

    Which Cories do I have?

So, I bought two Cories a couple weeks ago, and I haven't been able to find any information on which species of Cory they are. Directly Translated, the name at the LFS was "Flower" Cory. I doubt they are some rare species, as they were only about US$0.30 each. Can anyone give a positive ID...

Longest Fry can go w/o feeding?

They made it! A bit skinny :? , but alive and well. :)

Longest Fry can go w/o feeding?

They're in a 5 gallon nursery tank, and it's been fully cycled for at least 3 months now. Before it was a nursery tank, it was my QT tank. I've got an automatic feeder, but there's no way it can dispense frozen baby Brine Shrimp. I'll check to see if it can dispense the TetraMin Baby food...

Longest Fry can go w/o feeding?

I've got about 20 1 week old Red Platy Fry that, from birth, have been fed frozen baby Brine Shrimp 3-4 times a day, and had daily partial water changes. I'm going to take a trip this weekend, and will be gone from Friday night to Sunday night. Will they survive without feeding and water...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

I decided I'm gonna let them grow up, and when they reach adulthood, give them away to my friends who keep fish. Seems most people aren't willing to put in the effort to do what it takes to raise fry from birth, and if not properly cared for, they die within a couple weeks it seems. My regimen...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Yay! The Platy is all well now! Looks like the Maracyn 2 did the trick. The scales that she lost haven't grown back yet, but I guess that kind of stuff takes time. She's rejoined the main tank, and is eating like a pig again, and swimming around vigorously. One of the other Platies gave...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Got the Maracyn and Maracyn 2 last week, and just administered the first dose of Maracyn 2 now. Let's hope this gets the Platy to start eating again, although she must be eating something, because she is still generating waste. Strange, because she doesn't touch the food I give her, and hours...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Yeah, I was thinking it might not hold water, so this morning, before I left for work, I filled it and stuck it in the bathroom. So far so good. I was wondering how I'd heat it too. That's not as critical right now, because it's summer, and the ambient temperature in the room will...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

I'm down to 4 fry now, but that's to be expected, since I'm not really giving them any special care except feeding them fry food, and 50% daily water changes. Not sure where the missing ones are though. Maybe the Panda Cories suddenly decided that Platy fry were tasty snacks. The mother is...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Well, this just got more interesting. The sick Platy just dropped fry. So, I now have 7 Red Platy fry to join the mother and 3 Panda Cories in QT. I don't think there's any way around it now, I'm going to have to buy another tank to use as a nursery tank, because I don't think the fry will...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

So, I was able to find something that looks like a generic version of Maracyn/Maracyn2, and I'm trying it out now. http://www.azoo.com.tw/azoo_en/modules.php?name=Product_Review&bkid=295 After 2 days, looks like most of the fungus like stuff is gone, but she's still not eating. In addition...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Well, I haven't looked specifically for Kanacyn or Maracyn, but when I was shopping for meds last time, I don't remember seeing anything like the pictures online of those products. I'll have to see if I can drop by a few of the local LFS and take a look. On the other hand, it seems that since...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Yeah, from reading other posts, it seems like the likes of Kanacyn, Maracyn, and Maracyn-2 are the next weapons in the medicine arsenal. Unfortunately, I don't think they're available here. I'm having one pack of each brought in, and they should arrive in a couple weeks. Let's hope that the...

    Red Platy still sick (pics)

Hi all, I thought my Red Platy had fungus when large white spots (too large to be ich) appeared on her tail about a month ago, so I medicated with Waterlife Protozin. That seemed to get rid of most of it, and I followed that treatment with TetraMedica Fungistop. After I stopped the...

    Red Platy stopped eating

Well, this morning, the Platy started eating again! :D She didn't eat much, but at least it's a start. Let's hope she regains her appetite soon!
