    Missing dwarf lionfish

I added a dwarf lion to my 125 about 4 weeks ago and after the second day I haven't seen him since. I added some ghost shrimp and guppies for the first week (all disappeared). I have searched the tank with a flashlight several times after the lights went out with no sign of him. No carcass...

    Porkie puffer and carpet neme's

I had a saddle carpet anemone, anything picking at him was never a concern. Him catching and eating anything that came near him was my problem. One damsel, one hawkfish, multiple crabs and snail all became snacks. And he grew very fast. Good luck.

Advice on moving my 180 gallon reef tank...

I moved from a 55 to a 125, and it was a pain but not impossible. I used a 10 gallon, and 3 large plastic tubs and a couple big plastic trash cans. I only used about 25 gallons of existing water, new sand, and all my live rock. Typical process, water from tank into tubs, seperate corals and...

Horseshoe Crab-how quickly will he grow?

Make sure everything is secured, these guys are clumsy bulldozers. Everyone I know that ever had one brought them back due to the destructive issues.

    Aidpastia? Expert advice please

I am by no means an expert, but that picture looks like a little sponge, not aptasia. As stated, I doubt what you see was the cause of your loss, maybe a symptom a water problems. Good luck. By the way, my pepperment shrimp seem to love aptasia, didn't have much but they quickly took care if...

    dosing help

Thanks. I don't have anything to test magnesium now, but the third part of this BRS dosing regiment is magnesium. I was told to wait until I empty the calcium and all and then mix and add the magnesium suppliment. Sound right?

    dosing help

Talked to LFS and he is dosing 40 ml twice a day. I don't have as many corals as his tank, but clearly I started low. I'm bumping up to 40 ml a day and I'll work it from there.

    dosing help

I'm dosing BRS two part Alk and Calcium and haven't been able to reach an equalibrium. I started dosing with a level of Calcium at 390 and 10 ml per day dosing of each. I have gradually increased to 25ml of Cal and 20 of Alk and still seem to be chasing my target of 420. What levels are you...

    Green Bubble Tip Anemone PROBLEMS

I would leave him alone. Your anemone will move itself if it isn't happy. He'll move around until he finds a combination of water movement and light that suits him. Let him settle. Good luck.

    clown in my overflow

Thanks for the ideas. I was successful in getting him out by turning off the return, siphoning out the water down to about an inch, urging him into a net. Now covered to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks. Bud

    clown in my overflow

O.K, now I know that I need to put a screen over my overflow boxes, but for the problem at hand: my smaller (male) clown has jumped into my overflow box. I have a dual internal overflow boxes on my 125 gallon reef. No way I can get him out with a net that I see, if I get near him he shoots to...

    Dosing calcium?

If your Calcium stays at 480 you don't need to dose. I dose to keep my level at 420. A lot depends on how frequent you do water changes, salt, etc... your torch and frogspawn prabably aren't using up much calcium. Good luck.

    Water Temperature

Probably a good idea, never used a chiller but be sure you lower the temp gradually.

    Water Temperature

If my math is correct that's about 86 F which is a bit warmer than recommended. I keep my tank between 78 and 80 throughout the day. I think fish and coral can handle a pretty wide range, the just don't handle changes (big swings) very well. Good luck.

    Plate coral was stung

Mine had a similar encounter with a saddle carpet anemone, initially looked a little worse than iyours but only got progressively worse and died. If it doesn't worsten pretty quickly I think yours has a chance. Good luck.

    Yellow tang question

Normal behavior, give him some time an he'll get comfortable. Mine charges the glass and begs for food if I pause in front of the tank. He'll lay low, then do a few speed laps with the power head. Never misses a meal though. Be patient, good luck.

    Tang question

I am only feeding one yellow tang, but I only tear off about an inch the sheet and roll it up (I use me glassmag to hold it up). Nothing left.

    dosing help

Found some guidance on BRS site. Their recommended daily doses seem a little high, but I guess the difference is in the potentcy of the mix verses the concentrated premix. Anybody using the BRS package? What are you dosing? Thanks.

    dosing help

To all, I have been manually addind B-ionic two part for calcium and alk twice a week. Dosing about 60 ml of Cal and 30 ml of Alk and maintaining 400 and 8.5. I have recently acquired 2 aquahouse automatic dosers and the BRS Cal, alk and mag package. Question is concentration? Using the...

How many blue green chromis would I need to get a good schooling effect?

    Chromis Massacre-Killer Clownfish

Had a friend with a similar problem, the chromis were added to a tank that the clowns were king, nothing but problems. Another friend added chromis to a tank that a powder blue tang was king and the clowns didn't seem to care. The bigger the tank the better also. Your tank looks great, but the...

How many blue green chromis would I need to get a good schooling effect?

How many blue green chromis would I need to get a good schooling effect? I'm looking for some activity and I really like the schooling look. I'm thinking 6, they'd be joining a yellow tang, two clowns, and a lawnmower blenny in my 125 gl. Thanks.

    understanding calc/alk

I would recommend you start dosing the recommended dosage a couple times a week testing regularly. When you get to the desired level you can then determine what it takes to maintain and adjust accordingly. Remember every water change adds calcium. Good luck.

    Tang question

He eats pellets daily, mysis shrimp every 2 or 3 days and dried seaweed on alternating days. He also grazes on alge on he rock continually. Seaweed is definetely his favorite.

    Tang question

I only have one yellow tang so take this for what its worth, but both are on the more passive end of the tang scale. I think in a tank that size, especially if introduced at the same time, you would be just fine. The brown powder is a great looking fish, I'd add one if I didn't think my yellow...
