    Jaguar Cichlid Fry

I'm seconding the notion that the blueberries are artificially dyed; a terrible practice. They will fade to albino over time. Lets get the word out so others don't make the mistake as well. -Mark

    OMG this is funny

OMG, It took about 5 minutes to load and I was beginning to think THAT was the joke (on me). But... I am still laughing! thanks, -Mark

    Jaguar Cichlid Fry

Actually, a 30 hex is too small (WAY TOO SMALL) for even one adult oscar. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but I bet the rest of the AA people will agree with me. -Mark

    Jaguar Cichlid Fry

Sounds like the big one is just going through a "spell". I've had two for quite some time now and occasionally, one will get aggressive for a week or two. Just make sure that there are lots of hiding places for them to establish their own territory and maybe re-arranging the tank will decrease...

Blood Parrots trying to Breed?!? I know they aren't the most popular fish on this website, but... I think my blood parrots are trying to breed. They just changed color (black/brown to bright orange) a couple of months ago and just this week, I've seen them acting very territorial, flashing on...

What can we do about Wal-Mart Bettas?

I was at Wal-Mart the other day and stopped by their fish dept. (couldn't help myself) to look for a female betta. I couldn't believe that they had their male bettas (in the small cups of course) stacked 6 high and 10 deep. I can't imagine how the poor guy at far back and center position would...

    I've noticed something...

It goes to show you why you must be careful to get fish that will cohabitate well and not to overload your tank. If you have compatible fish, don't overcrowd them, and keep the water chemistry in balance, you should have a highly stress reducing tank to watch. -mark

Found this in my tank :(

You're right about the different varieties of mantises. I couldn't tell how big the one was in the picture. The really dangerous ones get really large. I've seen one about 7 inches long. They are the ones that can generate forces similar to a gunshot. Good luck getting rid of them (if that's...

    Angel fish? Babys?

Angelfish will tend to their babies at least at first. I don't know how long you leave them with them though. -mark

    Sparkling gourami

Thanks guys, they remind me of my female betta, just kicked up a notch. BAM! Liveaquaria.com said they were easy to keep, but I wanted to check with you guys first. Don't want to get these beauties and then have to watch them die. I'm very happy with my female betta and she is absolutely...

    Sparkling gourami

Has anyone had these. I've recently discovered them and think they look great. But I've never seen them in a fish store. Are they hardy, long lived, friendly, etc. And... Where can I get some without having to buy $30 worth of fish? -mark :frog:

    Freshwater snail questions...

Get ready for some advice you might not like. Two oscars and a pacu are way too much fish for a 30 gallon. They will get huge and make way too much mess for your average sized tank. Hopefully you can put them in a big tank soon as they grow very fast. As to snails, I don't know how much...

    Upside down floating Goldie

I've known a fancy goldfish that lived for years that way. Just floating and tumbling around upside down the whole time. It looked awful, but he didn't seem to be in much distress as far as anyone could tell. good luck, -Mark

    couple questions getting started....

I've always cycled my tanks with a fish, but just one. The last time I cycled my 20 gallon with one female betta. I added some Cycle bacteria to start. The only negative is that I had a bacterial bloom and the water was kind of cloudy for 2-3 weeks. The betta was perfectly happy in the tank...

    Clown Knifefish...Big Boy!

How about some Pacus? I've seen some pretty big guys that were very gentle acting. Or maybe someone could fill us in on gouramis (I know they get pretty large too). -Mark

Found this in my tank :(

It's a mantis shrimp. Apparently they can generate more pressure per square inch than any other ocean critter. Yowie! -Mark

Found this in my tank :(

Yes, they can break glass. They also can do serious damage to your hand. -Mark

Little white fast whirlie bugs in my tank.

They should turn into fish food very quickly if you have something big enough to eat them. I'm SURE your ecology teacher can tell you loads about them. -mark

Need to grow my babies fast

That's fine. At what size do you take the risk and add it to the aquarium. I've got a betta, two guppies, and (hold your breath), two medium blood parrots 8O . It's the parrots I'm worried about. Although many say they have problems eating, mine are like little hoovers sucking up anything...

That's true. Horseshoe crabs are very cool and rather sting-ray-like as well. Are they very hardy? -Mark :frog:

Need to grow my babies fast

What is the best way to grow my baby guppies so I can add them to the big tank. I saved two of the babies after the last breeding. The rest got eaten :eek2: LOL. Now I want to put them in with the "big fish", but they are way to small right now. Any suggestions on the best food for babies...

sting ray died 5 hrs after i bought it!! :(

Sorry if you don't like the responses. These guys are hardcore. But really, as you read you'll find out lots of people get in your situation because fish stores often don't care what you have at home as long as they make a sale. I've found if you give as much info about your set-up as you...
